Fourth Arrow Camera Arm Review

Haha, thanks, we're super excited! We had a couple of losses, but she is 23 weeks pregnant :) Not going to find out if it's a boy or girl. Due October 28!

That is great news! :D

Cool. I want to video but the start up has been cost prohibitive so far. Maybe next year.

Congrats on the new addition! Let me know when you get closer to buying a fluid head. I did a large evaluation before settling.

I really want to try all this self filming cheap but I can't in some of the places I hunt, plus it's freaking expensive, lol.

Which one would you recommend? The Manfrotto 128rc?

I would get either the 128rc or the 700rc2. The 700rc2 is lighter and my go to unless it is below 10F outside.

During my evaluation, I sampled my trusted Manfrotto 128rc, 4th arrow fluid head, Manfrotto 700rc2, Gitzo G2180, and a lightly used Manfrotto 701hdv. I also previously owned and sold a 500AH.

I ended up keeping both the 128rc and the 700rc2 and selling the rest. After this exercise, I'll likely never mess with a non-Manfrotto head again. They are all good heads, but Manfrotto continues to impress me.

So what I'm hearing is that since I live in Michigan and Im only getting one, go with the 128rc.

Honestly, I would go with the 700 rc2 if I had to pick one. The 700 rc2 is a lot lighter and functions OK in cold temps. The 128rc was just a bit smoother but I would rather have the 700 rc2 for most of my hunts.

I was having problems with the camera being too high on the reversed arm so the boys at fourth arrow built this one with the connections facing down instead. The original arm while using my lone wolf climber had to be mounted above the seat in order to function, so the first segment wouldn't hit the stand therefore putting the camera at chin height while sitting. Kinda made it hard to film. Now the camera remains low and its much easier to operate. On the old style arm each joint raises the arm by 3.5 in and the ball head leveler raises it by 7" so thats 3.5 x3 joints =10.5 plus the 7" for the ball head leveler and fluid head made it 17.5 inches higher than your waist at seated position. This new down jointed arm fixes that problem. And it seems as though it shouldn't be a problem with the new Mantis I haven't got yet. These pics are of the original arm with an extension added. I bought the extensions because I couldn't film on the off side of the tree. The arm just wasn't long enough. Oh yeah I almost forgot the down arm gives you a little bit higher weight rating for your camera gear. One other thing by adding the 3rd pc. of the extension arm I had to add a second ratchet strap to the base to keep the arm from twisting on the tree at full arm extension. Thats because I'm pushing the weight limit of the arm with the gear I'm using.

I'm using a single over center buckle on mine right now with no issues. That sucks that you need an extra strap with the 3 segments. Our camera setups are very similar otherwise.

I agree. I prefer the 700rc2 over the 128. My 128 locks up bad in cold weather.

My 128 is the opposite. It's my best arm in extreme cold. It's the only reason why I kept it. I guess some heads are still individuals
