Hardest terrain to deer hunt in your opinion

That won't help you, they are amazing at getting next to something without disturbing the water, like a big gator in two feet of water can be imperceptible. You wouldn't have any time to grab your gun.
Ran up next to one in the kayak that I had no idea was there. When it left out, I thought ok so this is what top water frog feels like when a big bass misses. Went over top of a big one in my 1860 war eagle and had the same feeling. No idea how big that one was but it violently moved water 8-10' out on both sides and in front of the boat and that 1860 isnt a small boat. Duck hunt those same holes standing in chest waders. But I wait til it gets good and cold lol.

I see them all the time in my kayak when im fishing. I had one get a little too curious and seemed to always be where i was so i made a point to just be aware of his presence...got distracted by the fishing and a mullet jumped out the water behind me and i felt the splash on my neck and heard the water...my brain instantly went to that gator that i thought was now pulling me out my kayak, bout jumped out that kayak and out my skin.

What do you define as crap logging practices? From my experience, cutovers anywhere in Appalachia are the most productive habitat. Endless seas of mature timber are wildlife deserts.

I love a clearcut as much as anybody but I'm not a huge fan of the PADCNR's practices in the part of the state I hunt. They clearcut hundreds of acres in a chunk, next year harvest another hundred acres next to the hundred they just harvested. And these cuts are surrounded by cuts of various other ages. They do nothing to support the regeneration so we end up with swaths of junk trees, the tree of heaven is taking a liking to the most recent cuts. They did leave some oaks up but not very many. They can be productive for sure, but they hit a point where there's no longer under growth for browse, the trees aren't mature enough to produce mast. In some areas 75% of a piece of public land is some form of clearcut or juvenile forest that ranges from useless to impenetrable. They may be better for wildlife than a mature forest but they aren't always great for hunting.

Don't get me wrong, I try to use them to my advantage as best as I can but it almost seems excessive in a lot of cases. Like a couple ag fields in the middle of nowhere is cool, but a bean field surrounded by bean fields might not be a great bean field to hunt. There's almost too much cover and too many edges with not enough deer to populate it. Or when they hit that point of being useless you've got 300 acres of waste land. There are some game lands around (managed by the PGC) that do smaller cuts and in squares. They also do controlled burns after they cut and the habitat is fantastic for everything. I'm not a logging expert, so I can't definitively say the DCNR's pratices are crap but in my opinion I do not like them. They also log in season and multiple times we've been in a tree when a logging crew moved in. One day they bulldozed a trail I s*** you not 15 yards from my tree. I let em have it and stopped in the local office that morning.
