Ran up next to one in the kayak that I had no idea was there. When it left out, I thought ok so this is what top water frog feels like when a big bass misses. Went over top of a big one in my 1860 war eagle and had the same feeling. No idea how big that one was but it violently moved water 8-10' out on both sides and in front of the boat and that 1860 isnt a small boat. Duck hunt those same holes standing in chest waders. But I wait til it gets good and cold lol. That won't help you, they are amazing at getting next to something without disturbing the water, like a big gator in two feet of water can be imperceptible. You wouldn't have any time to grab your gun.

What do you define as crap logging practices? From my experience, cutovers anywhere in Appalachia are the most productive habitat. Endless seas of mature timber are wildlife deserts.
