HOMEMADE PLATFORM FOR PRESETS

I will definitely be grabbing a couple from the local harbor freight and strapping them to a tree. If they aren't quite strong enough they might make good aluminum casting forms.

I also like the idea of using 3-4 inch diameter schedule 40 pvc steps. Can't find where I saw the idea but if the "contour edge" steps work thick wall pvc will work.

Putting them on a tree might sound like a bamboo wind chime if you make a ring of steps.

I saw a tire in a tree on public this spring. Not sure if it was a saddle preset, or? I went to take a picture, but forgot my camera was broke.

Here are a few possible suggestions:

A few years ago I had made one just for practicing in the yard and it worked great. I don't remember dimensions but I had cut down a 2x12 (maybe like 16" long or so)for the top of the platform, put a v-notch in it. Then I had a 2x6 or 2x8 on a 45 from the platform to tree with a v-notch. I also had a piece running from the platform top to angled piece, that's where I put a ratchet strap through and around the tree. Cut it with a circular saw and put together with deck screws. Pretty simple and cheap (at least at the time). Just don't have much adjustment for angle unless you take the saw with you.

I’ve seen people use radiator hose and blocks of wood before. I tried some different stuff but eventually just bought some Cranford Saddle Scaffold sets, they work great and fairly cheap.

Really, the only advantage that I see of any ROS vs some 2x4 or 2x6 steps configured into a ROS is their portability (bulk, weight, noise).
If you are making a platform for preset locations, you can't get much easier than some treated boards cut into triangles with a slot to accept an inexpensive ratchet strap.

But then again, if you are like me and really enjoy tinkering with DIY projects, the sky is the limit and you've come to the right place to ask.
May God have mercy on you... hahaha

I have one in my garage and have stared at it many a times…..wondering the same thing! Might take a sawzall and cut it down the middle and make two from one though as it’s wide enough.

If it's a tubeless tire... it's great. Remember most of your weight is on your tether not the tire. The tire really is comfortable for your feet. They make great presets... I think.... I have only one atm.

Can you clarify? There's talk of predator platforms, tires, PVC pipe, 2x4 etc. On this post. Not sure what your gonna cut in half.
