Honestly, is remote releasing of rappel line that big of a deal?

Just wanted to chime in on this thread. As a community, it's really cool to see this kind of collaboration. Regarding your retrievable rappel anchor, you definitely should not try anything you're not comfortable with. Some terms i learned: an exploding hitch is a special category of quick release hitch, which just pops off the host, leaving no strand across the back. Highwaymans and Hitch are exploding. Running Highwaymans and Running JRB are quick release but leave a strand around the tree. Now, if your instinct tells ya that an exploding hitch is too aggressive, know that before testing my JRB hitch, my instinct agreed with you. I tied and tried everything I could find, including a Running Highwaymans (which I am not aware anybody had used) and nothing was adequately stable and fault tolerant. The thing that impressed me about the JRB hitch is how well it jams under load. The tests on the playlist below were basically prescribed to me by members of the IGKT when I submitted for consideration as a new knot. The most impressive test is when i get myself just a few inches off the ground but have my full body weight on the hitch and i TRY to release myself under load. Its possible but ya really gotta load it. Pls, I don't want you to use it if you dont trust and love it. But I also don't want ya to dismiss it unless you actually tied and tried it, safely of course. Skim any of those tests if u like. Tie it as prescribed in the "Rappel or Tether" vid. Always use a separate and smaller cord for retrieval.
