How did you hear about saddlehunter??

Wired to hunt podcast interview with John E. I always have felt like i was sitting on a dunk tank seat in lock ons and climbers. Always used a 4 point harness, but never felt safe. Im looking forward to hopefully taking a few deer this next year in it.

I have been a Pittsburgh Pile Driver for over thirty years. Got hurt two years ago was off work for a year and now on lie duty. Be careful out there. Saddlehunting is the way to go for sure.

I’m a NY CITY pile driver. I know Tim, your instructor, very well. I just saw him in the fall and he told that - he was getting ready to retire.

I honestly can't remember how I got here lol. I would say maybe seeing @Boudreaux post on ArcheryTalk led me here. DH is one of my favorite forums I visit and definitely the only forum I can call a number of the members friends!

I first heard about saddle hunting in the mid 90’s when my college roommate purchased one, but hadn’t thought anything more about them until I heard John Eberahrt on a podcast last year and he mentioned saddle hunter.com.

It’s been down the rabbit hole ever since. Definitely had become an obsession.

Accidentally found SH while searching for DIY aiders / etriers for a totally different use. Never truly saddle hunted before, but very close. I also used rock climbing gear to get my 5 yr old in and out of tree stands a while back. Anxious to try out my Mantis saddle once it ships and my DIY platform / sticks thanks to @bowhunter15 for the inspiration.

When I started Pile Driving we didn't have an apprenticeship. Work on permit for a few years until I was taken into the local my uncle and cousin were pile drivers. Tim retired this month Stan has been retired for awhile. Worked with Tim a few times over the years before he became an instructor. Stan was the instructor before Tim. Golfed with Tim alot be for I got hurt.

I had decided that I was fed up trying to find quality hunting clubs that you could, 1 tolerate the rules, two tolerate the members, or 3 afford the fees each year for decent hunting land. So I decided I wanted to start hunting some quality public land in my state. I knew I did not want to hunt out of a climbing stand. I started looking for the lightest lock on stand and lightest climbing methods I could find. This is when I ran across the Wild Edge steps. I was very intrigued with them and started researching them as much as possible. From there I found @Boudreaux, and his videos on YouTube, which ultimately led me here and then to purchasing my Kestrel. I jumped in feet first, and actually had to check myself and slow down a bit when I first joined. I can't remember being that excited about anything since the birth of my daughter. I will never hunt another way as long as I'm capable of climbing a tree. Went to saddlepalooza not having been on the forum very long, but really wanting to meet some of the guys. So glad I went, and so glad I joined this forum. I can't say that I met one person at saddlepalooza, or engaged one person on this forum that I have not liked. This is the first forum I've ever been a member of, and is like my second home. Thanks @redsquirrel for running this site, and thanks to everyone that makes this such a fun place to hang out!

When the state purchased my lease and made it public hunting grounds I found out real quick that my old ladder stands were beacons signaling where to hunt. Didn’t take long for my good spots to go to crap. Climbing stands are great for the cypress trees but will kill you when walking deep swamps. I managed to use climbing stands until my back was hurting so much it almost made me go to the doctor. Had a friend tell me I should use a saddle and sold me his small TL. Knowing nothing about it, I did a web search and found this place. Now 4 years later after purchasing my first saddle I’m sewing my own gear. Amazing how addicting this stuff is. I was never really a gear guy, but this place has changed me. Kinda got lost in it during the season last year, so much that I didn’t focus on the hunt. I was more or less thinking about modifying different things. This coming season I plan to stick with one maybe two climbing methods and go back to a platform. Really want to get back to reading deer sign and enjoying trying to solve the puzzle.

I've been on for a few years. I heard about it from the Huntingbeast. I think redsquirrel was a member over there and said he was making this site. I was back and forth with saddles for awhile, but I keep coming back to them!

Really awesome site. The DIY aspects are reason to come here in itself.

I was unsuccessful after two years hunting public land and was searching for better tactics. I read John E’s book and wound up on SH soon thereafter. With the climber, I spent more time hunting trees than deer. I like leaving that ball and chain at home.

Listening to W2H podcast with the God Father John E. Read all of his books. Having been a lifelong climber and mountaineer it just made since. 1 set of everything fits the budget perfectly.
