How do you carry your milkweed?

tic-tac-giant-orange-bottle-bm.png

Waterproof
Has both a large opening (for stuffing it in) and a small opening (for dispensing).

These are great for storing 22lr bullets also

i made this from veg tanned deer. It has a divider in the middle so I can carry something small in addition to milkweed. It easily fits in a breast pocket or the side pocket of my dump pouch.

I wanted a one handed option for use while walking so I spent a few minutes making this from some scraps I had laying around. Don't mind the stitching too much, my fabric welder was acting up (I think its low on shielding gas :tearsofjoy:). Its a piece of camo fabric and some saddle mesh that I opened a few larger pores in to pull out the milkweed strands. I stitched in an old velcro charging cable tie on one side so I can open it for reloading when necessary.

I still plan on carrying a full pod in my flip top container for full fluffy floaters for when the occasion merits it. I just wanted something I could access quick and easy as well.

That doesnt appear to be a gas problem. Looks like a plugged tip.Resized_20230805_143356_7891.jpeg

I am going to try this DIY method this year. I like plan to have one on my backpack shoulder strap and my bino harness. What I really like is the simple, one hand operation.

I ended up going with the @Allegheny Tom / @CZMark technique and it has worked great and it is easy. It keeps it handy and in good shape20231014_102506.jpg

I use the little hunting public milkweed zip pouch, then I zip tied that to the bottom of my chest bino harness. Easily accessible when I need it and protected from the elements when it’s not

Take the .5 seconds to take the lid off
I started using milkweed around 2000 when I found someone's medicine bottle full of milkweed while I was hunting. The rubber band and the zip tie make it so convenient, all you need is 2 fingers. I have been 12 sits on one pod so far and it just hangs on my bino harness.

"Take it off" how? Unscrew it which takes 2 hands? Do you have the lid somehow attached to the bottle to prevent dropping it? If you do have the lid attached to the bottle does it ever tap against the bottle when you open it and it's dangling freely?
I don't do the pouch or coin purse thing but I can understand why some guys prefer it over just using the pod although I believe the pod is the best way.
But pill bottles? I don't understand that method at all.

We are talking about the same thing right?
Literally pops off 1 hand. Drop some milkweed. Close lid. Put back in pocket. Rinse repeat

All my pill bottles (and I have plenty of them from prescriptions) are screw top, so okay, you can open your bottles one handed.Do you hold the bottle with one hand and pinch out floaters with the other hand? Do the floaters ever pull out in one clump?

Answer me this...do you put some sort of little leash on the lid, and bottle so you can't drop either one?
And the whole idea of clipping the pod, or a coin keeper/pouch to your coat or tether is so you don't have to fish stuff in and out of the pocket each time you want to release floaters. It requires less movement when we often release floater when deer are in our lap.

Hey, I'm pretty sure you and I are dug-in on our approach to this so we ain't changing each other's mind. But there are new guys to this that the discussion might help.
Carry on whichever way works best for you.

Leave it to saddlehunter to make a topic this simple complicated :tearsofjoy:
I break the pod down before I put it in the bottle, so no it doesn't come out in a clump.
No, I'm not clumsy. I have never in hundreds of uses dropped it accidentally.
I have never released a floater when deer are in front of me. What ever happens happens at that point and I can't change it. So I don't see two hand usage being a problem is any degree whatsoever.
If someone else prefers another way have at it. I prefer this. I don't like any system where the milkweed is openly exposed. Tends to somehow get all over my gear

Some talented fellow on here made me a couple a few years ago. For the life of me I can’t remember who it was. Otherwise I poke a bunch into one of the pockets of my bino harness.

Easy Girls, no need to pull hair. I agree that the weed carried in it's own container is much more fluffy. Once it's stuffed into a container, it gets a little compressed. You may not even notice the difference until you open a fresh pod and try it. You'll see it is very fluffy & when there's no wind, it makes a big difference, just my 2 cents worth. ( or just open one up and dump it in the pocket of your favorite jacket) JK.
