Thanks @Nutterbuster was fun running past hunts through my brain. Made me think of a topic for the unsuccessful hunts section. A cocktail of whitetail obsession and having newborn sleep deprivation.... I'll type it up when I have a little time at a computer.

Older does have birthing and rearing down to a science. They’re quite territorial and when they find productive fawning ground they keep it and will not let other does use it. Everyone likes to talk about how we need to kill all the coyotes (sorry, boys, ain’t ever gonna happen) because they prey on the fawns. Well, they do, to an extent, but there’s really only a short period of time where fawns are vulnerable to coyote predation if they remain healthy. Older does defend their fawns better AND their fawns are raised in the prime location for nutritional success as discussed above.

Older does also tend to go into the fall and through the winter in better shape so their rate of multiple births is higher.

Add all that up and as long as you have the capacity for more deer then killing young does is the way to go if you want more deer.

Plus, younger deer are more delicious.

Nah I never did. The wife had a baby in August so my hunting time was limited. There’s always next year though.
 
I am 61 years old and have hunted 4 seasons and killed 4 deer... started late. Started saddle hunting the first year I hunted. Sounds lame compared to most of you. I have killed more turkeys than deer in those 4 years. I hope I have some time to get out our season opened today.

Mr Womack reading your stories are inspirational. I wish I had kept better records and photos throughly the years. I have no desire to catch up with your numbers. I just hope to still be climbing trees and shooting deer at 75.
 
No measuring contest, some of us are just blessed to live in states where we can kill large numbers of deer. Very large. SC finally went to a “sorta” statewide limit.....I think we only get 13 tags now.

Both - I have a GPS coordinate of every deer and turkey killed since I started. The GPS page is for family and friends to scatter me when I die. It’s in the will.

My journals are for every sit and I write memorable things for every single one.

I have two ways actually. One is all my kills with details on each. Date/time/weather/location/shot distance/hit location/recovery distance and weapon. For each hunt I record that on an app called Quiver on my phone that records each hunt, deer sightings and it totals my time throughout the season. I try to keep some general notes on each hunt in that app.

Thank You, Sir! I've had a blessed life. I've always encouraged hunters to do what they can to record hunting memories in the forms of writings, stats, pictures, and video. Actually we are only limited by our imagination for what can be recorded. Without doing so, with the passing of years, those memories will fade and become forgotten. Besides it can be a lot of fun.
 
I am 44 and started hunting at 7 on dog hunts.Killed my first deer that year in front of dogs.Killed my first bow deer at 13.Have killed over 200 with a bow and not sure about how many with a firearm.Been fortunate enough to take deer in Ga,Al,Fl,Miss,La,SC,Ken,IL,and Ohio.Not all big uns for sure but they were trophies and memories for me.Lot of fun with buddies over the years Great experiences and some good eating to boot.

And how many deer? 63, give or take 1 or 2.
 
Im 20 years old. Shot my first doe at 4 1/2 years old. I am not sure how many deer i have killed but at least 1 per season many years I as many as 3. I hunt Iowa.
 
I grew up in CA so don't hate :eek: Self-taught deer hunter. Moved to the east coast for school and picked it up.

Started hunting deer in 2011.

I've killed 1 mule deer and 9 whitetails.

I'm 28 years old. In CA I used to hunt quail, dove, coyotes and the mighty ground squirrel! I've always hunted something I just didn't have the opportunity at abundant populations of deer growing up. I live in VA now and love being able to access multiple public land areas and a few private by permission properties only minutes from my door! I usually ride my Huffy to those spots. What a dream come true :hearteyes:

I never really counted or kept track of how many deer I have killed. I am 42 years old and have been hunting since I was 12. I know I have killed a lot more deer prior to the CWD Discovery in Wisconsin where I hunt. I have been more selective in deer now and they are only allowing us to take 1 buck bowhunting unless you buy an extra tag. I would say in the past 15 years I have killed 5 deer and probably an average of 1 a year prior to that... So maybe 20 deer.

The best buck I killed grossed 168 and that was at age 18. I have seen some bigger ones while bowhunting but no shot opportunities. I also killed a mature doe that tipped the scales at 178 field dressed. She was massive.

Lately I am just happy sitting in the woods and watching them. Just need to get my son onto some deer this year, which will be more rewarding to me than killing a 200 inch buck.
