I've never driven a rig, but my truck is a 2019 Tacoma. 6 speed for fun and a cap for storing hunting and fishing crap.
I may be getting rid of it. Wife is pressing hard to upgrade. She's still in our 2012 Highlander. She wants to upgrade to a Suburban or Expedition. I think something that large is ridiculous, but you're not gonna agree on everything.
Thing is I'm thinking about trading in my truck and driving her Highlander for a couple years. Idk, it's a tough decision. Highlander is paid off, only has 150k miles, should be easily good for another 3 or 4 years anyway. It's fine, it's not as manly or fun as my truck but should get me everywhere I need to go. And it's paid off. Objectively it's probably the right decision, unless the transmission craps the bed next month.
Butttttt, my truck payment isn't really too bad at all. I only have $9k left to pay off. I got it early during the covid insanity for a steal at $30k and 2% interest, it's still worth $32-35k now. We had two kids when I bought it, now have three. It's a squeeze getting them all in but doable. I see myself upgrading to a Tundra at some point sooner than later anyway. Might as well just dump the rest of my payments, sell the thing for a small gain, and call it a day. But I do love my Taco. Hell someday it could be my kids' first vehicle if I decide to hold onto it.
I'm still torn, we shall see. Totally listening to anyone that wants to tell me I should preserve my manhood and keep the truck.

That new tacoma has all of my attention but I am waiting for the 25 4 runner to come out before making a decision. I like my tundra but I feel like I would be happier with the tacoma or 4R. Wife has a 4R and I really like it.Keep the truck. I have the trundra and wish I also had a Tacoma especially the manual! All my friends with tundras feel the same. They are different trucks for sure.
You will be using the wife’s vehicle 98% of the time that you are all traveling together anyway. That’s the easiest way to keep yours clean.

I hear ya. I am 93k on my 2017 and not in a hurry to replace. Got it in 2019 with 18k miles on it. It is about 6 months from being paid off and though I would like to trade it for a new one, I am leaning more towards putting a topper on it and driving it until it falls apart. Would be nice to be payment free and only have a house payment for a while.Me too… but at $40-50k they can keep it.
I’m in a real bind: I need a new rig before hunting season and the vehicle market, at least in my area is insanely overpriced currently. I bought my 2002
Tacoma with 40,000 miles for $12k and got almost 200k miles out of it… these days $12k would barely get me a POS beater.

I really wish you hadnt posted that because it made me do math. Holding off on replacing the truck for 5 years and throwing the payment over to the house note would just about pay the house off. Frickersnapperdefloper if'n the wife figures that out I for sure aint getting a new truck. That’s exactly what I did; it’s hard to swallow the return to a monthly car payment after almost
A decade without one. Sadly my frame is rusted out completely, though the motor is still going strong.
Join us on the paid off truck with a topper bandwagon. It's nice being able to buy more toys or pay down other debts, and I try to avoid the first year or two of a new generation anyway in case there's any kinks they need to work out...I really wish you hadnt posted that because it made me do math. Eberhart has at least one thing right. Vans with a hitch receiver are great hunting vehicles if you dont have to go off road too much.
Or the Suburban - the off road man vanI don't disagree, but I have to spend time around my kids and other peoples kids, not sure I want the cops called on me on the regular. Strange a reputation as men driving creeper vans has developed, it's a real thing. They need to bring back the Ford Excursion aka the Man Van.

So long as you’re ok with 5 miles to the gallon
