In his bedroom - UPDATE (help)

I think I would walk the streets and see if I could spot blood on the pavement. I also tend to think if the buck is thinking clearly, he will go back to the area he was bedded in. Also check creeks and low spots. Good luck. I know this is nerve wracking.

I am surprised the dog lost it so fast. I wonder if its the urban environment that threw it off. It seems like if I was that deer and I was hit back further than you thought I would try to circle and get back to that main block of woods to the north of your stand or else try to cut into that woodline that leads into the park south of the main road. You can also drive and walk those roads and look for any crossing blood on the other roads, especially where those tree lines hit the roads. I wouldn't wait for tomorrow to do that. Too many people around to bump across that buck and either freak-out or claim it as their own.

Edit: if you cant find blood anywhere he crossed the road after walking them, my money is that he looped back on his own trail and moved back to the north of your stand

checked back north there as I thought the same. Also checked up across the street in drainage ditch and through that block of woods.

So would you guys - assume he’s still alive, grid check the rest of that hay field, something else?

Any deer you don’t find eats at you… and searching is hard. If it were me, and I hate to admit this, but particularly for that buck, whatever you have permission to search I would be searching everything, as thoroughly as possible with whatever time you have available. And not sure how much you searched once the dog took over, but can go check and recheck from last blood. My wild guess would be the big timber to the left.

Had a buddy find a buck for someone with his drone…. Might be an option if you know someone.

I gut shot my urban deer a few years ago and he headed towards a creek bottom but bed down about 50yds uphill from the creek. He probably went 200yds from the shot. Laid down behind a neighbors building behind his house. Now with our urban hunts its run through the local police department. We have to check in every deer with them and if we hit a deer and cant find it we have to report it to the local police and they will notify dispatch to BOLO. Not sure who runs your urban but might check with the local's

Looking back on your post, you said the angle of the shot looked ok, but you didn't say where you thought you hit? You could have hit forward and just hit brisket and the deer is fine since he was quartered away. Same could be said if you hit high. How did the broadhead look? From the pic you posted, it looks clean. Did it have any fat or blood?

Grid searched more of that field this morning before work and nothing. Still plenty more to do and checked the southern end of the pond in the park. Also looked for arrow again and couldn’t find it which makes me think he’s either dead/going to die.

Jimmy - I have a friend of a friend who I think we’re going to be able to get drone from.

Terp- tracker wasn’t sure, he was thinking with the dog stopping at the road that all the travel back and forth (plus lawn services going on at the time) he couldn’t say one way or another

Hokie - I believe I was probably just behind mid body,at about shoulder level which should* have been good. However deer was on alert, etc.BH had some blood and fat in and around the ferrule this is where I think I hit him (it’s an app but that’s without a moving animal on alert) looking at this now if he jumped string and took off I could’ve hit high and behind kidney but even Then I’d be likely to hit abdominal aorta or femoral arteries..

Not to be obnoxious but do you use lighted nocks? They sure help sometimes.

If you hit in the general area of where the blue mark is I can tell you that is a fatty area on a deer which would make sense why there was fat on the broadhead, etc. Its a game of inches in that area and honestly if you hit any major artery back there I would think lots of blood and quick recovery. Ugh, I've been there. More than I'd like to admit

no rolled edges, so seems to be a pass through. Maybe BH caught something as arrow passed and deer ran like some have suggested
