Just ordered some Muddy Pro Sticks

4 sticks with one loop each gets me just over 16’

Each stick has 18" between steps. If you make an 18" aider and space 18" you should get 4.5 feet per stick/aider. Or 18' for four.

Are your aiders or your spacing or both less than 18"?

I set it so the loop is even with my knee. When I hang the next stick, the top of the stick is even with my head.

Maybe I read my tape measure wrong? :)
I’ll have to look when I get home. I thought I was higher than that

I carry the sticks up hanging upside down from the Aider loops. I can keep the loop on my arm while hanging so I can’t drop the stick. Worked out well.

I just need to get the bolts tightened up better. Some were wobbly

Just checked. My Loops are 15" below the steps so that loses 1'. Then factor in sag when hanging the sticks...

It's probably worth it to go ahead and put a full aider on the bottom stick. I just wanted see what it was like with just single loops

I am not confident with anything more than a single step aider, but props to you and anyone that can use multi-step aiders.

I won’t use a multi step on higher sticks.
A Black Diamond 5 step Etrier (Not Alpine) is not too hard to climb. I also have a modded Trango 4 step that I added Rubber hose to the steps that is easy to climb but slightly shorter

Yes, I meant the top of the top stick is 16'.

I don't "Giant Step"....Single loop feels like less work than stretching up or down. I also weigh about 30# more than you do :)

My general rule is that I set a step/TreeBolt/Aider/Stick where my step is even with my knee. I can just lift my foot up and find it without looking

I'm 6' and I can get between 18-21' with no aiders, of course this is set up on my platform.

Thanks,
Boswell

How many muddy pro's do you take in with you and how high from ground level to your feet?

I run 4 pros, I measure to my hip and I can get between 18-21 feet depending on what I feel the setup in that tree needs.

Thanks,
Boswell

Exactly which aiders are you using? 5 steps on each stick? I'm about to buy some more aiders for my Muddy sticks.

I’m guessing at the 23 ft to the feet I need to measure.
I use the black diamond on the bottom stick and it usually is about 6” off the ground. I have the 3 step CMI aiders on the next two the bottom is about 20-24 above the top of the lower stick. I have to really stretch to get my foot in it’s absolutely as high as I can get it. At the top I set my ameristeps at least 18-20 in above the top stick. Usually when I step up to my platform I pick my bag up off the ground. My pull rope is 25’ long minus knots and it is tied to my waist.

I really need to measure to be totally accurate. I can sling the muddy rope pretty high up the tree and tie it.
I have also used the top stick at ground level set it, climb on top and set my first stick with the 5 step aider about 20-24 “ off the ground. Climb back down, Remove my top stick and start climbing and get extra footage that way. I used wildedge steps between sticks, limbs and whatever else to climb higher.

If I was to do it all over 4 step minimum I would probably do all 5 steps on the muddy sticks.

I stealth strip the sticks and I added stealth strip on strategic areas of the steps.

The two pieces that attach to the bar, there is one circular area on one of the pieces. I put that bar on the bottom. I then put paracord through it to attach my single step web aider. I also put hawk's rubber coated wire (like nite eyes) through it. I do this so I can attach the stick to my climbing belt with the wire. I assume it will work better for kestrel with the molle loops.

The ropes it comes with are a little short for my liking. I bought muddy life lines and made sections to replace the ropes. I think maybe 8' total each. That gives me the ability to use them on trees at least as large as the lone wolf straps. I also keep the original ropes in my truck. If I ever come to a tree where my installed ropes are too short, I can get the originals and join them to the installed ropes with a zeppelin bend knot on them to extend the rope more than I think I will ever need.

Update on the rubber coated wire. My single loop aider is connected to the stick with paracord. It is 18" + 18" + 8" = 44"
I just sling the aider over my head and one shoulder and let the stick hang when climbing. At bottom, I have one stick on tree, two sticks with the snap loop cinched together over one shoulder and the fourth over the other shoulder.

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier. Saw @justsomedude entry about slinging over shoulder and tried that. Too excited about the rubber coated wire I guess.

I got just shy of 20' with three sticks and aiders. I did 3-3-2 on my aiders

Damn, I've been insistent on using the top of my last stick as a foot hold to walk around tree. I'm going to use two Cranford steps next time. One to get an extra 24" to platform and one as my opposite side foot hold

$148 with free shipping from Jet.com. Hard to resist.
I got them for setups where I am not hiking or maybe I would use the 1 stick method on occasion.

I love the idea (never used them) of the Rope and the double steps and I know that I get more height from short sticks than long sticks. I have a set of short sticks already but the strap/packing system on them is terrible.

I already have Strapworks carry straps and several aiders and home made single webbing loops.

Any tips or tricks I should know about? I will likely use an aider on the bottom stick and single loops on the higher ones. I stay in the 15'-20' range.

I got on jet couldn't find them?

I setup my Muddy's today for the first time on a mobile setup in the dark. They went up really easy. The aiders were a little annoying. The top loops were small and wanted to grab on the soles of my boots. I may change them out for CMIs. Other than that, I'm a big fan of the Muddy/aider combo.
