Kestrel flex thought’s and questions

So as I sit here putting the flex in my cart and contemplating buying it I am asking myself if the new features are worth shelling out $250 bucks.. currently I am hunting out of a kestrel clone I got off a member here and it is really comfortable and I don’t really have a reason not to use it. I think the biggest thing I like about the new flex is the adjustable webbing bridge that is open on one side. However I could easily diy this onto my saddle.

#1 the flex idea is cool it allows the saddle to expand an additional 5 inches (per the podcast I listened too) they say when not flexed it would be the same size as a corresponding kestrel. My question is what keep it from flexing open while u walk in? Will it be baggy and floppy walking in?

#2 with the saddles and diy stuff I’ve messed around with I found the lower on my legs or more I have something that cups the more pressure I get on the back of my thighs. This just may be a big guy problem or my body type since we are all different. If by pulling the flex down it cups more and generated more leg pressure it would be useless for me.

#3 I’m primarily a leaner and don’t sit. With my kestrel clone I can walk up to a tree with the saddle tight on my waist, leg loops semi loose hook in lean back and can be hunting no adjustments needed.

#4 I’ve been debating on getting a stock kestrel to compare to my clone since I like it maybe I should just stick with what I know works lol

If you want it buy it. If your a leaner I don’t see much benefit. I started with a sit drag and was primarily a leaner. When I got the mantis it turned me into a sitter.

If you are primarily a leaner I don’t think I’d bother. The extra material isn’t going to help any with leaning I don’t think. Not crapping on the saddle at all but as a leaner myself I like a slimmer saddle that’s not as tall. It’s just not needed.

I think that is true if you are a leaner.

I have bought every single commercially available saddle at some point.... until Tether'd released the Mantis. IMO - it fits every single need I had as a saddle hunter - and all in a very safe, compact, and light weight product. I now save many manhours every year DIYing saddles. I bought 3 mantis and that should last me for the rest of my hunting life. The only mods I make is to add 2 paracord loops (one for 3rd sticks and one for predator platform) and one zip tie loop to attach my climbing pouch to. The rest is 100% stock right out of the box.

Same thing with sticks, I have tried just about every single climbing method out there and every style platform. Since I hunt multiple states with multiple rules on what is legal I needed a system that works wherever I go. I also needed a system that worked for preset or new to me trees as I employ a very aggressive hunt style and seldom hit the same tree twice in a season. My system works anywhere I go and in any tree anyone could ever climb. So my climbing and hunting system will more than likely not change much anymore..... the good part of that is every year I get more and more proficient in using it - I can literally set up in total darkness.

Its gravy that one company makes 2 out of my 3 components (still using my Helium modified sticks)…. who knows, maybe tethered will soon come out with a better stick and they will go 3 for 3.

Just buy the damn thing already. Face reality, saddle hunting is a disease, you gotta try everything. Thanks to your PM yesterday my wallet is $100 lighter.. :). Of course I had the purchase the cordless drill bit from tree hopper to go along with the hand drill.

Bottom line is that your asking about a saddle that no one has tried or seen in person yet. My advice is if your that curious about it and have the extra money go ahead and get it. If you decide it's not for you sell it on here and get your money back. Someone will buy it.

Maybe call Debbie at aerohunter and see if she could answer your questions and address your concerns.

In the podcast I listened to with Bobby Boswell I believe he said the new flex was more beneficial for guys that were in between a size 1 and 2. And also is better suited toward a sitter rather than leaner.

I thought the same after listening to it
But that comment means it will work for all unless you want a super light leaning saddle. Then you want a mantis

I ordered one anyway lol I reached out to aerohunter and they messaged me back pretty quickly. Figure if I don’t like it I can sell it. Went with the tubular bridge and carabiner. Going to try running a tubular tether with the Austrialpin buckle. Hoping to really cut done on some rope bulk.
