I didn't need them when I wore thick wool pants.
When I do wear them, I find it nicer to wear small ones UNDER my pants.
I have wrestling style Gel elbow pads and knee sleeves that work well.

In the cold, you have to watch out for sweating.
When I ground hunt I like to wear thin pads under my pants.

Not sure what you mean... I don't ever have to go to other side of the tree. I don't like having a long strap/rope connected to the bridge. I strap onto the tree just above eye level, that way you don't swing uncontrollably. I can still cover every direction.

I wore new pants from Core4 hunting apparel this past weekend. They have built in knee pads that you can remove. They worked great.

btw - killed 2 doe out of the saddle Sat morning also.

I have a pair of 15-20 dollar knee pads from Home Depot and they work well enough. I'm considering upgrading to a pair of the 60 dollar gel ones to see if they make a big difference. In an average hang I probably rest against my knees 45 percent of the time, stand on the platform in some way 35 percent of the time, and sit with my legs around the tree 20 percent of the time. Good knee pads are essential for me.

I hang against my knees for a large percentage of time as well. If you get the gel ones let me know how they work because I am always looking for more comfort on my knees.

I have the same ones Boswell. I've always used the rubber caps, maybe I'll try the hard ones. The padding in them seems like it has worn down and isn't as effective as when I first got them.

Are the Trophyline knee Savers all that great? Or could I get some better ones for about $30-$40?

I just got a pair of these and would recommend them. I feel they protect my knees a little better than the trophyline, especially on lone sits, and the price is right!

Hhhmmm, Okay. I never been in the knee pads market (I took my cuts and bruises as they came lol), so I don't know what to look for. Especially for what we are using them for.

Those are some nice high end ones. That leather would probably wear quick on trees.

I like the ones without Velcro. I just found a pair just like redsquirrel's at Menards in MN. Only the are black for $16, I'm really liking the a lot. I'll look at what Brand they are.

Guys do these make you sweat around your knees?

If I wear them in to the tree (which I usually do), maybe a little bit sometimes. It is not something I ever worry about though. If I am sweating around my knees I am usually sweating elsewhere also.

Same as what redsquirrel said but I did find the ones with Velcro to be a lot hotter. They have a bigger, thicker strap usually JMO.

Okay. Laugh, but when I started saddle hunting and I said I wouldn't need them. Haha let me tell you, there's been some times where I wish I did have some .
