Kneepad recommendation

The ones Red is using look like Milspec stuff. Not very comfortable at all. FWIW, us GIs throw those in our gear lockers and buy our own.

The Arcteryx ones have my interest.

Pretty sure this is what I have. My focus is infinite adjustment and no Velcro since I like to put them on when I am up the tree. These have been good, but I wonder every time I see a gel pair. As long as you wear these with the clips to the outside, no problems. When the clips are inside, they can hook on each other and click as you move your legs apart. Ive had the ones where the rubber strap has holes and goes over a button, don't like them as I would have pop offs at times.

Just got these from Meijer. No Velcro, Gel is quiet on tree, and clip on easily. The nice thing buying from Meijer is that the wife thinks it is groceries:smile:

Ok got the Arcteryx kneepads today. My initial assessment is they are very nice and should work very well for saddle hunting.

The knee cap has a hardshell with small flexible bridge that is attached to a small hard cap that sits on your shin. Adjustments were super easy and quick, and I like that straps have a hook and loop that is offset and sewn into the strap from the kneepad, so you shouldn't struggle with the hook bending inward against the pad.

Put them on and had them adjusted in less than a minute. Took a knee to see how it felt and was surprised how unobtrusive they were. The flex part wraps the pad around your knee, and there is about 12mm of foam in the pad itself. Didn't feel any pressure on my knees which was a relief because I had just spent 6 hrs on knees doing hardwood floors in older hardshell kneepads the day before.

I'll give a full review once I've done a sit or two I then. But so far I'm excited to try them!

Glad to hear you like them. What little I got to use mine, I thought they were sweet.

Thanks,
Boswell

Did you see the thread talking about hanging a cushion on the tree instead?

That said....I've worn wrestling pads under my pants.

That is what I did in the past. I used one of the self-inflating pads with the strap on it and it worked out pretty well.

Self Inflating is a good tip...I have some camping pillows but I think mine might not be wide enough.
My "Big Game" seat cushion is just about perfect but of course bulky. Easy to strap on the outside of a pack if you know you want to use it.

The XOP Climber seat comes with a VERY stout cushion but it isn't as wide as the Big Game cushion

IMG_1055.JPG Here's my cheap Condor pads. There was Velcro to lock the straps on but I removed that. There are adjustment buckles on elastic straps. Then these plastic tabs let you lock on the straps without being too complicated or noisy and the straps length can be preset

I gave up on knee pads after last week...for now anyways. I have two pair one cheap and the other ones that someone posted from wal mart. My cheap ones were the most comfortable but was having to constantly pull them up. Alternating between the tree and sidesitting seems most comfortable at this point in the journey.

I just bought some of the gel knee pads from menards. It's kind of funny. I never used them, and always spent 80% of my time standing on the platform, leaning against the SitDrag. Every now and then I'd sit with my knees against the tree to alleviate fatigue on my legs. I thought, "this is more comfortable except for my knees. Some saddle guys buy knee pads right?" So I bought them and WOW, now I finally understand the all day comfort. I added stealth strips to eliminate glare and make them quieter.

I gave up on knee pads too. I bought a $2 1" camo foam cushion that has a strap for the tree. I cut it in half so now it's about 8" tall. Weighs nothing and is comfy.

I couldn't imagine hunting without knee pads. I'm more of a sitter so I have more knee contact with the tree so they are a vital piece of my gear.

I stand 80% of the time, maybe more. I was out for 3.5hrs yesterday and my $15 lowes knee pads delivered again. Due to the height of my xop I-beam, Im only able to get 1 knee on the beam. Yes Im putting all that force onto a 1.25" wide aluminum bar on one knee and I dont feel a thing.

I use these knee pads under my outer wear. They are not real knee pads but knee supports. They are more comfortable to walk with than wearing nothing on the knees. They are light comfortable and contain activated carbon. They provide a fair bit of knee padding.
IMG_2111.JPG IMG_2101.JPG For extra comfort I carry a flat pad and tie it to the end of my tether

I just found out that the knee pad straps cut off circulation when worn over multiple layers. Stood up to stretch and almost fell off the platform because my legs were asleep lol.

What angle are your knees? If 90deg or less, for sure pinch can occur.

About 90. Could've went with a higher hookup I guess. That does seem like it would help.
