Would it be safe using a 30' lifeline to repel down with? It's 11mm. Reason I ask is I have one laying around, then I could just buy the repel device and possibly be set. I'm not sure if lifelines are static or if they have stretch.

They are dynamic so they have stretch. IMO after we have started venturing into the climbing market I have realized that most of the "safety" equipment on the hunting market is junk. I'd much prefer climbing grade equipment.

Thanks for the info, that's what I wasn't sure about.

Well I went out in the sit drag again today, this time I actually got to sit till dark. Lots of deer movement, just couldn't make anything happen.
Tonight I was in a little bitty pine tree, like about 6". Couldn't rub my nose without the tree swinging, but it was in the right place. I gave the one-stick with 2 step aider another try, and it went great, just like at home. My 'platform' was the top of my stick and one homebrew Jim Stepp, worked just fine. However, before I went out today I shortened my bridge some, about 8" shorter, and I believe it caused quite a bit of squeeze in my hips. But then again, that's the longest I've sat in it so it may would've already done it before I shortened it, and I just never noticed. Another problem, after about 45 min or so, it always seemed like I needed to readjust the sitdrag. I kept going from straight across my backside, to slide it down under my thighs a bit, to back up again. Couldn't stay comfortable. Feels like it bunches up underneath me and makes the straps dig in. Any ideas on that? My arse too big? Bridge the wrong length? I have a pic of how I was set up, the camera angle makes it look like I'm leaning WAY aways from the tree, but I'm not, more like leaning against a counter, just a bit further.

My bridge is the same length as the sitdrag

I'll lay mine out and see, if you don't mind me asking, what size waist are you? I'm a 34 on a good day, 36 on all the others ha. Would the same length bridge work for say a 30-32 waist and a 34-36? Or would it cause some pinching on the bigger?

Looks like you need a longer bridge. Try one about 24"-28". I bet that solves your problem.

I'll measure it out and see. I may remake it in rope instead of the 1" tubular webbing, webbing doesn't seem to slide through the carabiner smooth.

Agreed. I use 1/4 amsteel blue and it slides like butter.

Ok so I made a HUGE discovery tonight! Y'all will probably figure out what my problem was before I even get to the end ha. I went this afternoon and hid up in the edge of a pine thicket, pines about 20' tall and ground covered with briars. I stomped out a spot of the briars on the inside edge of the pines and used my sit drag at ground level. Yes I was hunting, but I also wanted to experiment with my setup from ground level so I could make changes without worrying about elevation. I would do it in my yard some more, but my wife will constantly be sticking her head out the door asking me to do something ha. So here goes. I noticed yesterday I was getting lots of discomfort in my hips. I was told to shorten my bridge based off a pic I posted. Well for giggles, I measured my bridge. It was 33". I knew I didn't like that length, so I went with 2 bridges this afternoon. One about 38" and one about 26-28". I got set up, no platform, just feet against the base of the tree. Tied my tether about 6" over forehead height. After about 15 minutes with the shorter bridge, the pain was WAY worse. So I switched to the longer bridge and it was much better, for about 30 minutes and the pain was back. Kept sliding the sit drag up and down my backside trying to find the sweet spot, nothing.. then it dawned on me. I remember watching one of Dave's videos, and his tether was much lower. So I lowered my tether to about mouth high, and it was a HUGE difference! The pain I was feeling wasn't so much hip pinch, but the upward force of the straps essentially trying to rip my buttcheecks off haha. I sat that way with the long bridge but that kept my prussik right at the top of my tether. So I switched back to the shorter bridge while tether was lower and it was still pretty nice. I think I still like a little longer bridge, maybe in the middle of a 26-38", but the tether being lower made the biggest difference of all. It put the tension a bit straighter on the sit drag straps instead of it pulling upwards on them. I'm sure you guys have already figured this out, but it was night and day for me! Now that I got my preferred tether height figured out, I can dial in my bridge length. The shorter one I made, I made from rope, slid way easier in the carabiner.. the nylon webbing just doesn't feel as smooth. So I now know my new bridge will be rope, I will probably tie a new one about 28" with a long tail so I can re-tie it until I find my sweet spot. I want to thank everyone who has offered advice to me and others. This site is sooo much better than another forum I'm a member of. People here actually want to help others and are encouraging, even with constructive criticism, which is usually only about safety concerns. The 'other forum' is full of people wanting to put others down and shame them, whether it's a deer, a stand choice, anything. I've gotten to where I almost can't stand to look at that forum anymore. I've pretty much stayed over here lately due to everyone's respect for other people. Thanks to everyone for the help and advice to get in a tree without a bulky stand , and helping to make sure others are safe while doing so. Thanks again guys!

I may have lowered it a bit much, but it was so much better for me it was unbelievable... it was one of those, "Oh! This is how it's supposed to feel!'' moments haha

And that why I have a hard time buying a more expensive saddle

I feel like the higher tether would work better in an actual saddle, where it goes from lower back all the way around to under your thighs, then you wouldn't get the strange upward pull feeling. But since I found this little sweet spot, I couldn't justify spending big money on a saddle, not yet anyways. Maybe one day!

When you have the tether to high the lower part of the sitdrag tries to fold up and pinch it arse. Lol

Yeah it kept feeling like it was bunching up and giving a pinch, which in fact it was! Ha, basically it was slowly trying to ride up my hind end which was giving me sore spots. Once I thought about daves video, and a little geometry went through my head, I realized lower had to be better, but I didn't realize how much better. I was just about to give up on it because I was honking it wasn't for me

So glad to hear this. My bridge is 28" and I tie in right at my eyeballs. Buy some 1/4" Amsteel and you'll be in business.
