LW Seat platform with Whoopie Sling attachment

Good stuff here. Question, why would this base be preferred over a Ring of Steps?
Comfort is a bonus. Primary benefit for me is shooting to my weak side with limited movement. Plus, it is easier to hunt leaning trees...I hate fighting gravity with the step ring.

A lot of us use both. Platform plus steps on an as needed basis.

I understand the fighting gravity thing but all I have used thus far is the ROS. I will have to try a platform. I am wondering if anyone has made mods to a quick stick. I use LW Wuick Sticks and in order to minimize gear/weight I wonder if I could fabricate a mod to the top of stick. Any ideas?

I’ve messed with this idea a little (very little) and may pick it back up in the off season now that I have a large leftover section of my xop stand casting. I damaged a section of my leverage sticks trying to get my LW seat to attach to the top and sandbagged it but there’s definite potential.

yes sir. there are several mods on the forum from a simple larger two step on top to a small platform integrated into the stick. what did you have in mind?

I don’t have anything specific yet, but something simple, maybe even just a female slide on with a straight section of about 8” then a curving wing on both sides that would relatively fit most trees. Ideally you could slide on to stick while up in tree. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Interesting. I'm not aware of anyone that is regularly using a modular platform that they add/remove to the top of the stick. I would guess noise would be a challenge.

Most either permanently add a large step to the top of the stick or add a seat like platform to the stick. Word of caution on the adding a full platform to a full length stick of aluminum construction. It works better to have platform closer to the attachment strap or you risk bending the stick. It is also much more solid feeling. Top steps are less of an issue as you are pushing on the primary axis.

I've thought about that a lot. If I had the tools and skills to fabricate and weld, I would definitely build something to slide over the top of my top Muddy stick and rest on the bracket/step. I think it's a great idea.

I attached a platform to my LW stick. I didn't like it. It bent my stick and was kind of a pain to deal with. You can see the thread with details in my signature.

Thanks for the feedback guys. More thoughts to come....

I don't have any experience with the XOP I beam. If you can shorten the beam without compromising it's structural integrity, I would say go with the i-beam. That way you don't have to worry about reinforcing your aluminum tube. On the other hand, the aluminum is apparently a lot cheaper (according to BB) and reinforcing it is pretty easy.

As far as working with the aluminum tubing, it's pretty easy. I cut it to length with a regular old hacksaw and drilled the holes with a Dewalt hand drill. No special tools required at all. Finally, give it a quick camo job with a rattle can or use some camo tape to dull the shine. It's actually a pretty simple process. The hardest part is finding a seat!

The price must have changed, or maybe I linked to a different product. I paid about $12. That was the first time I had ever bought aluminum tubing, so I didn't really know either way.
Hi Again G2O, you and a few others mentioned re-enforcing. Where in particular are you re-enformcing and have you run into any issues at the hinge? I can see the pressure at the hinge wearing down the aluminum. I hope I'm wrong... I just wanted to see if that's been an issue or not.

Cant say Id want a carabiner and platform connection due to noise. The Jim Stepp knot works great, if you remember how to tie it while your in the tree. lol

Would just tying two half hitches hold as well? Those are easy to tie and remember

I'm not sure, amsteel is slippery stuff. Give it a go at ground level. The thing about cam over is needing to adjust the knot slightly to get proper tension. The knot has been easy to remember this yr, just have to keep in mind what your trying to accomplish. You need a loop that synches on the lose end of the rope. So go down from top, under a bar, up thru adjacent opening, over outside of platform and fish the tail thru the loop you created on the bottom side.

@g2outdoors did you experience "slippage" using a UCR or whoopie?

I am wondering this also. I am thinking about either doing a whoopie or just using some hollow block as a prussic for the predator.

I saw @g2outdoors said in another thread that the whoopie was a lot to deal with or something like that?
