Milkweed

Here in Florida we have native milkweed but it's not the verity most of u guys used to...the pods are long skinny things like a little larger diameter than a pencil. We grow them in our yard for the butterflies but the pods are pretty much useless for our application.....my hunting partner ordered a ton off Etsy and some weirdo off of this forum from Virgina mailed me some...

I plan on planting some of the northern verity here but have not yet
 
I prefer milkweed and have access to it. But for those guys down south that say they can’t find it, cattails are a great substitute!! Works just as good and I know those swamps down there have plenty!! :grinning:

Yes! I’ve had a few times where I ran out of
Milkweed or forgot to pack it and you can always find a place on the side of the road to stop and grab a cattail. In some ways it works better because you can make an entire cloud with the seeds and see all kinds of nuance to the wind currents.
 

Pods For A Cause (milkweed)

I wasn't sure where to post this so I stuck it here. Seems like more and more guys are interested in using milkweed but they have trouble obtaining it. Some generous guys on this forum have been kind enough to ship and share what they pick. I will do the same but with a slightly different twist...

for anyone who doesnt have access to milkweed, you can stuff an old rx pill bottle with cotton and make a slit on the bottom of the bottle. This will allow you to pull\tear off bits of that cotton that will function the same as milkweed.

Keep an eye out for any roadside cattails that haven’t all blown away yet. They work well too and a single head is enough to last you all season.

Thanks, but just to be clear to those who may not know...
NOBODY makes a donation to me. NEVER. I've never taken one penny and in fact each package I mail costs ME about $5.
Every dollar has always gone to SOWF. The channels in which the donations have gone from you guys to SOWF have morphed over the years as I try to keep this as honest, efficient, and convenient. The way I'm doing this now, you guys donate directly to SOWF, nothing comes to me or thru me.
Seems like the interest has waned to the point that I seldom get a request in the last couple years. That's fine, not complaining. I didn't even need to pick pods this year. My supply is holding up well due to the lack of orders.
As I said, not complaining, it's all good.
