Molle Saddle

Quick update guys. I was able to get this on an official shipping scale.

Full saddle(uncluding tether and linemans belt) with extra carabiner weighed 5.64lbs
I also weighed my BOD harness with its added linemans loop weighed 1.36lbs.

It was hidden on one of the pages. Something to note, this weight includes (2) tree tethers made of 7/16 bluewater assault line, one used as linemans belt. Also included are (2) ropeman 1's. I no longer use the bluewater for my linemans, replaced it with a lonewolf tether(much smaller when packing and likely half the weight).

assault line vs LW buckle/strap.

LW tether vs LW buckle/strap.

Yes, Alpine BOD model. I attach the free end of the tether to my harness. In the event the ropeman1, bridge, saddle fail, Im still hooked to the tree.

Well, I finished the dang thing finally. It turned out AWESOME and I can't believe how comfortable it is. The cobra buckle is on order, and I'm toying around with the idea of pockets like you did. Thanks for all the great info.

Really looks good. I Don't see a belt though, is that what you're planning for the Cobra buckle?
For me, I think the top half of that thing would be awesome, but I can surely see that it should be very comfy the way it is.
Nice build, man

It does look great and really comfy. Hope you don't plan on hanging from the tied off webbing!

The buckle strap isn't shown in the pics, though it was there. Once the cobra comes in, and I get the platform drilled and assembled, I will get someone to snap a few pics of me in a tree. Essentially, the exact same build Ken did.

I do, to start with. I know the knots reduce the strength of the webbing a bit, but the original rating on the webbing is 17.8 Kilonewtons (4,000lbs), so I feel like I have a good bit of overkill still built in. I hope to eventually buy a sewn webbing bridge (once I determine my preferred) length, or even switch to an amsteel blue.

I think that he is referring to the knots themselves, not the fact that you tied your bridge to your carabineers.

I recommend some other knot, the picture looks like a single overhand knot. Perhaps it was just for the photo?
Webbing and water knots go like peas and carrots.

I thought a water knot required 2 free ends...? If I were to tie a water knot with a single strap, wouldn't it make it into a loop?

How about this "overhand on a bight" instead?

Looks good to me.

To me, an overhand on a bight - IS - a water knot, just tied on a different section of the rope.

In all honesty I used a length of 1" webbing as a bridge last season, tied with the exact knot that you displayed. I go ~220 then you add clothes and gear and it equals a little more hanging from that knot. Whatever knot you chose, be sure to check and make sure that it doesn't work itself loose over time.

I use a 1"x36" runner sling, they are relatively cheap.
The bridge shown in this thread is 1" and made by strap works. Its too short and I no longer use it.

The runner sling can be seen in the first pic..........

I have a 42" 18mm sewn sling I usea bridge with your Ken sling and it's great but a little long. So I tie it on both ends like the above pic

I ended up removing the extra loops I put on your sling too. Turns out that off I use the webbing sling as bridge, I don't need the larger loops and I love the Ken sling as you intended it

Made a total idiot move.... The cobra Bickel I ordered was 1.5" instead of 2. Now to wait on a piece of 1.5" strap....

.

Yeah. These things are too cheap to not pick one up, https://www.bluewaterropes.com/product/ ... ec-slings/

Just make sure they are actually stitched and not just taped together like last year's recall...

I hear you. I always test everything out at ground level. I can't imagine missing that they were taped instead of sewn...
