I never heard of cutting metal with a table saw, until this site, now I've heard it twice. What, just put a metal cutting disc on the table saw and go slow?

I put a high tooth carbide blade on backwards. Easy slow cuts. I use my compound mitre saw

I'm ready to make my Amsteel ropes. What length should I start with so I can make a sliced Brummell and bury the other end to keep it all neat and clean and still have the length I need to go around the tree?
How much rope do like for your finished piece to go around the tree?

There are a few guys on here who have some reasonably priced home CNC machines. They come in handy for more than just steps.....

I was just about to have a friend cut me some steps following bowhunter15's design (similar to above designs in this post). Basically 3/8" x 1.5" 6061 aluminum at 8-10". It would be cheaper per step if we had a bigger order - anyone else interested? Would want to move quickly. Let me know and I'll try to get some quantity pricing from him over the weekend.

Yes I'm new, haven't even posted an intro post. Hunter from Michigan just getting into saddle hunting, been hunting over 35 years.

Thanks for the welcome and interest. Any specific changes/mods needed or just like bowhunter15's design? His steps are 10" I believe and others have done 8". I've got big feet so thinking 10".

I've got big feet as well, but I think 8 is enough, I'm willing to sacrifice a little comfort for packability and weight.

It looks like the API sticks would be good for parts. $100 and you get 9 standoffs, 9 steps, and 3 sets of versa button hardware.

I made my steps at 10", I wear a 12 4E. You have to remember even with a 10" step that only leaves you with a 4.5" step, because of the 1" aluminum tube in the middle. A 8" step would be a 3.5" step.
