It’s that time of the year. Getting everything packed up and ready. Made a few little changes this year to try. Mainly an amsteel daisy chain tether. (I don’t know the ratings of this system or if it’s proven a safe practice. I personally feel safe with it and will do daily inspections for wear.) Tired of the big predator ropes plus I eliminate a ropeman. Will be changing my linemans to muddy’s rope soon.

Just my tether.

My tether is wrapped up with my amsteel bridge in this pic. The less hanging on the front of my saddle while climbing the better. I may clip it to the back molle loops while climbing. No bag needed. I’ll have to see how that works. Plus, I don’t like stepping through anything while putting a saddle on.
Sticks have amsteel rope mod and DanO’s versa buttons. And held together with my cinch foot aider that has a small bungee tied to the end. Really holds everything together snuggly. Multi use items, right!

Snuggly strapped onto my Kuiu 1800 venture pack.

Is the coiled rope on the pack your rappel system?

How long and what size is your tether? I have been really wanting to cut down on the weight of all the ropes. When you add in 2 8 foot predator ropes (linesman and tether) plus the predator bridge it really starts to add up in weight with all the carabiners and 2 ropemans.

I have been running through weigh to cut weight. I am wanting to eliminate some carabiners, ropemans, and ropes. I have been thinking about using one predator rope for linesman then getting to height and hooking up a Amsteel whoopie while switching linesman over to tether. Plus doing to a amsteel bridge but the daisy thether could eliminate all that switching around.

Great setup. Trying to figure out how I want to affix my helium sticks to my Alice pack with a frame.

Let us know how the tether works out over time. I have thought about it several times, but folks have always said on here an amsteel tether is not a good choice for various reasons. Other than abrasion from the bark, I don't see why it can't work with 1/4".

Interesting. Amsteel has a higher abrasion resistance than cotton/poly kernmantle rope.

Grapple system for pulling up items. I've tried paracord but it always tangles up or grabs brush and branches with its slack as I pull up. Don't remember what cord it is but I bought 50ft a long time ago to use for prussics on lifelines for permanent tree stands on a lease. It's easy on the hands when pulling up a heavy load like when I use to film. I've just been having it for so long as part of my system, I don't even know its there. Plus its always nice to have a length of rope with you at all times. Never know what you may need it for. I may change it to 1/4in amsteel also.

1/4in amsteel finished at 7ft. I think the daisy chain loops are about 3in. They could be made smaller if your hook up height is real critical. I know some people like to adjust height on the fly with a mechanical device, But once I'm set up, I have never moved my ropeman or prussik in the several years I've been saddle hunting. On the Daisy chain, I used a locked brummel and weaved it in an out 3 times instead of 2. It seemed to lock better.
I'll take some pics from my hunt.

Yes, I've heard the same thing and have been wanting to try it for some time but was reluctant to do so because of them. I just couldn't stop thinking of my amsteel bridge, amsteel rope mods, and my 10 year old winch line on my ATV that is frayed, faded, and caked in mud, smaller diameter, and still going strong. I've tested a sample daisy chain tether but don't want to give confidence to those here with my redneck torture test details, but I was impressed.
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND anyone who has information of why this is a bad idea to please post reasoning here. Anyone interested or is stupid enough to copy my ideas need to know as much info as possible before they make their own decision on a life supporting tether.

A little bow string wax from time to time on amsteel reduces fraying considerable and with your suggested use don't see it as a safety issue. Dyneema webbing is notorious for giving away suddenly if it is nicked (lots of youtube videos) so I would think you are far better off with Amsteel rope.... I may actually try this one after you test it :)

Just ordered some muddy safety line and a bunch of stuff from DanO; Prussic tender, kydex J hooks, Beal jammy, and 50ft of amsteel. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. Lol

I'm very interested to see how this works out after you have tested for some time. I would live to ditch the heavier ropes and use the amsteel as a tether.

I'm no expert but I would not trust my life to saving a few ounces of weight. I think the thicker ropes will hold up to a nick or sharp objects better under tension. Maybe consider two tethers if you go that route

Looks great! I built one last year to try out, but never did. I keep it my pack as a backup. The biggest wear I see on my tether is the knot it self. It's thickest part of the rope, so it rubs the tree the most. So with amsteel daisy chain you take out all knots and it's consist size thru out your tether. With should spread the wear more evenly thru out the whole system. I think it's a great idea!
