PeterK1234 that's just plain innovative and awesome. My only concern is the possibility of knee injury, by attaching to the tree below the knee leading to unexpected torque in a wrong direction. Maybe make the attachment easily breakable?

Anyway, nice job and thanks for sharing.
There should be no force on your knee. Everything is on your foot.

Yes, the load is all on my foot. No pressure or torque of the knee. I think if there were a mishap I would unhook. The hook being small may be a good safety feature.

Now that I am getting the hang of it hooking in is very easy. I will try to make a video of a full climb this week.

This is a really cool idea. One thought, since the majority of us wear knee pads, maybe find a way to attache the hook to the bottom strap of the pad? Mole quick connect maybe. Get to top, pull it off and voila. Really innovative- love the creative thinking here, keep it up!

3.5 feet is about right. I am at about 23 feet with six steps and my platform.

We had a mini saddlepalooza today in Massachusetts. There are a few guys that have been doing it for years and a bunch of us interested in trying it. So about fifteen of us got together at a local club. I had a chance to test The Knaider at full climbing height. Once the steps are set, I can just walk up the tree. Works pretty darn good. I think my whoopie aider is dead to me.

The whoopie aider requires me to set an extra step to hook the aider to so I can get to the step just below my platform. My other option is to use the RS tether method. Found another benefit. For those that do not like to tie a step in above your head.... you no longer have to because this is hooking to the step your about to get on.
Yo!- I know where Auburn is...60 miles away but hey..next massasaddlepaluza give me a shout

I will take the blame for that one. We held it at my club and was a bit sensitive to the politics about the whole thing. Clubs are a fickle cast of characters at times. With that said, it went great, the archery director liked the idea and encouraged to do something like that again whenever we want.

I think we may do another one before long because a number of folks could not make it. I am even thinking of a 3d shootout at treestand height as a way to encourage people to get more than twelve inches off the ground :) Set up a half dozen targets around a tree requiring shots from all angles. Next one will be posted for sure!

Interesting. How many guys from your club are on Saddle Hunter? What gear are they using? Do they mod?

The hook on your strap looks like a lonewolf easy hang hook only smaller . What kind of hook is it ?
I was digging through my climbing bone yard last night and it looks like I have a few hooks from Lone Wolf stands. I'm going to build one with that hook.
