I've been using the WE Aider and it leaves a lot to be desired. Torn between this and trying to make a "taider." I actually did a few climbs where I was propping my knee up on the step and pulling myself up. Fast and cuts out a piece of gear, but not remotely comfortable. This looks much easier than threading your foot in an Aider.
Pardon my ignorance, but did you stitch it yourself, or did strapworks do it for you?
I spent time yesterday climbing up and down with the setup. This time though, I used a linemans belt. Very stable, especially once lineman is added into the mix. I am finding that I have to lengthen the lineman because I need enough room between me and the tree/step to bring my leg straight up. It is so stable though that it solved my problem of getting onto the last step. In the past, I have been setting an extra step as a handhold (did not like the aider on a tether idea). Don't require it anymore.
If someone is going to make one of these, do me a favor. Try to use a bungee or one of those straps that can stretch for going around the top of the leg. It may work better than the static strap I am using. Keeping that snug is key so the hook does not move around on you.
Using a different sized hook is an interesting thought. The hook I am using is working well now that I am more comfortable with it. Lift the leg high enough then drag it down along the step. It always hooks. Larger would be easier for sure. Just have to make sure that it can easily unhook though. Pete
What distance are you getting per step ?Well Strapworks finally shipped my stuff and I was able to make up the strap on aider idea. I think I am onto something here. This is just a rough draft of the thing, but it has promise, I think. Okay, I need opinions.....

Here is the first time ever use of it................
It looks like 3.5 feet per step based on the video above. What distance are you getting per step ?
It is one of these.. http://www.strapworks.com/Wire_Hook_p/wh.htmThe hook on your strap looks like a lonewolf easy hang hook only smaller . What kind of hook is it ?
Where in MA did y’all meet? I grew up in the Berkshire Mountains3.5 feet is about right. I am at about 23 feet with six steps and my platform.
We had a mini saddlepalooza today in Massachusetts. There are a few guys that have been doing it for years and a bunch of us interested in trying it. So about fifteen of us got together at a local club. I had a chance to test The Knaider at full climbing height. Once the steps are set, I can just walk up the tree. Works pretty darn good. I think my whoopie aider is dead to me.
The whoopie aider requires me to set an extra step to hook the aider to so I can get to the step just below my platform. My other option is to use the RS tether method. Found another benefit. For those that do not like to tie a step in above your head.... you know longer have to because this is hooking to the step your about to get on.
