Hi guys! I have been a hardcore bowhunter for the past 25 years. With that said I'm always on the move and portable but I with a Summit Viper on my back. I'm to the point now that I'm tired of carrying the extra weight around and having to limit my selection to a nice strait tree that never seems to be in the right spot. With that said I'm intrested in sticks and saddles and after lurking for awhile I just had to join. It seems like you guys are a great community willing to share ideas and doing it the safe way! Thank you

Welcome, good luck. I always used a climber as well. Sticks and the saddle don’t save tons of weight, but they can be less bulky once you figure out the best way to pack. It has its place, but there are definitely different challenges to saddle hunting. I still sometimes take my Summit viper hunting.
I experimented with rope climbing, but 60 feet of climbing rope has bulk and weight too. You also have to have the tree pre- rigged in some way for that since you don’t want to try to toss a line when your trying to be quiet and quick.

Welcome, if you have used a climber a lot I would recommend getting a saddle of your choosing. Then try a hand climber seat or if your on a budget use you Viper platform. It’s much lighter then carting your stand as you can wear your saddle. Then you just carry the platform. I haven’t had time but this year I’m going to experiment with climbing around limbs with it.

Welcome! I grew up in the Scranton area, in Northern VA now, go the cheap route, don't spend all your hard earned cash on a saddle get a cheap rock climbing harness and a sitdrag to start, espeically if you don't already have a climbing method. it all adds up quickly, thats what I did last year and I've been so happy with my sitdrag that I'm probably gonna still use it, lol.

Oh if you're handy you can also make a fleece one for 2 dollars, lol, can't be that price, although you still need the rock climbin harness for that one.

Same with me except I carried a Goliath for all these years. In PA I don't run into as much of a problem but in ohio it seems I can never find a good climber tree where I need them. My just about ready to pull trigger on a kestrel.

Welcome to the site.

My set up is less than half of my Summit. There is a learning curve

Welcome from Michigan. I too am a mobile hunter who used to rely completely on my Summit. While moving to saddle hunting has dropped the weight I carry some, the biggest advantage I've found is the reduction in bulk and the ability to walk in quietly. It was impossible not to clank it off every knee high sapling walking through the woods.

Thank you guys for the warm welcome! There is so much info on this forum it is going to take me awhile to figure out what is going to work best for me. I was thinking about climbing sticks and a lock-on stand more then a saddle but I'm going to keep reading and watching your guys videos and see what I think will work best. Thank you!

Welcome to the site @3 Blade Rage . You're in the right place for saddle knowledge but be forewarned about a few people on the forum. @Jefferson10940 , @denots , @IkemanTX . Be careful what you say around these cats.

It’s always that @huck72412 guy starting trouble ;-)

And as far as lock-on vs saddle...
I haven’t sat in my lone wolf assault even once in 2 full seasons.
