I just bought the Hawk Hangout Ground Tree Seat today. It's supposed to be used on the ground but I'm going to give it a try and see how sturdy the platform is off the ground. I may have to add another ratchet strap but for $40 it may be another option.

Will be interested to see how this works out. I just bought a Gorilla seat like this to try out. I think I will have to do something to help it grip the tree. Either replace what is there with batwings or secure some metal bar with a point into the holes of the bars that abut the tree.

Here are some pics from the hawk tree platform. I will attach to a tree this weekend and see how it works. My gut tells me it's going to be ok, but we will see what happens.

Let me know if you have trouble when you add any side pressure or lean. I think with these seats, the side to side will be the issue.

I tried an old generic one and I tried a Gorilla this weekend that looks almost identical in design to your hawk. Great for the straight downward pressure of sitting. But not great for weight shifting. Hopefully Hawk made their "V" the right shape. If so, I'll try one out.

If you have a good v and the bottom is cam locked there will be no side to side play. The platforms with the built in v like the Klemz and the assassin only require the typical cam lock to the tree by stepping onto the post and lowering the platform.

I'll post pics up when I get a chance, but I made some custom "aiders" with a loop on each end and hung it from the ends of the steps. Saw someone on here post something similar last winter and was hesitant about it but it works great because it keeps the loop open. I don't even need anything on the webbing to keep its structure. A set of 4 of these is 3 pounds heavier than my 3 lone wolfs, but it gets me higher and it actually feels lighter to me because they're more compact.

What kind of webbing did you use for the aiders and where did you get it from?

Recommend mil spec tubular webbing but most webbing will do if rated.

I was able to secure the Hawk Seat Platform in a tree tonight. It came with one ratchet strap so I added a second strap to make sure the beam was secured to the tree. I stood on the platform and I felt secure but when I moved to the left or right there was a little play. There is a bolt/nut that secure the seat to the i-beam. The hole is a little bigger than the bolt which is creating the movement. I weigh 240lbs and I would like this platform to be a bit more sturdier. It may work for someone that is smaller. Back to the drawing board. Hope this helps.

Just looking at it makes me wonder whether the attachment of the seat all the way at the very top of the beam is a good idea. Looks like quite the lever, especially if you are putting weight on the outside edge of the platform.

I finally got around to attach the Muddy seat to a muddy stick (same as Bass did) and that works pretty well as long as I attach the platform between the brackets. Thing is that the design of the Muddy seat allows me to still flip it up to carry it in, whereas the Hawk design has to be attached on top of the stick to flip up...

Has anyone ever tried to replace the v-brackets on this seat with the 6point brackets from LW or XOP? Do you think this would help with the lateral movement and would they fit? Wondering because my local Menards has these for 29 bucks, might be worth trying.
