Platform Options

Just remembered i took the whoopee slings of a few cranford strap on steps. Fits on my platform just like yours G2. Im not sure what size it is, or if its amsteel? Its kinda Grey/green but hollow so it lays flat.

Upload a pic. I'll be able to tell if it's amsteel.

Using 1/4" will work fine. Start with about 100"of rope. You can trim it down at the end with no problem.

I'll type up some instructions in a bit.

That is not amsteel. But most hollow braid ropes are pretty strong. If it functions for a step, I'm sure it will function for a platform, right ?

Im not sure it was intended to get the tighting cam over gives you, but its a secondary system, platform will be held by cam strap. Does amsteel go flat like this, cause it wouldn't work with ropeman if it did.

I have not used their stick brackets.... in going to design and use some of my own making.

Amsteel doesn't flatten, but you'd have to use the heavy duty Amsteel with a Ropeman. I can try it with 1/4" if you'd like. I have some lying around.

I don't have any that big to try, but I'm sure it would work. You're going to be impressed with amsteel.

I had an idea to sew a short nylon webbing sleeve to slide around the amsteel. The sleeve would be a barrier between the rope and the tree. I know these are used in the climbing industry. I never got around to trying it though.

I sent samson ropes an image and explanation of what I wanted to do with their product and will see what they say. Bend radius has me concerned since we run the tether back thru its eye loop, that creates several tight bends. Same with it running thru a biner when used as a bridge.

That would be perfect. Most of the time we're in trees about 12-18 inches. I'd setup the sleeve for that. Most of the abrasion could be eliminated even on larger trees.

We use amsteel almost exclusively for hanging Hammocks. The tight bends have never been an issue with carabiner or larks heads. I've used the same 7/64 amsteel slings for years.

My whoopie sling is made of Samson Rope Amsteel Blue 3/16", Green. It has a break strength of 5,400 lbs.

Once you cam the platform over, this thing is ROCK SOLID. It's not going anywhere.

Fully extended the sling is 56" long, fully retracted it's 32". I can use this on as small a tree as I have the stones to climb. haven't measured how big of a tree it will work with, but I estimated it to work with trees up to about 24" in diameter. The beauty of the sling is you can make them as big or as small as you want and you won't suffer a weight penalty since the rope is so light.

I started with a piece of rope approximately 85" long. That's just doing the beer math in my head.

I've not hunted out of this yet, but I have shot my bow from it and it handles side pressure very well.

When did you start using the muddy sticks? I'm going to use them this year, was out in the yard working out my system today. Lots that I like about them, a few things I dislike, but overall I think they're going to work pretty good.

Muddys were the first I bought. Love them. When paired with aiders, they're perfect.
I'll post pics up when I get a chance, but I made some custom "aiders" with a loop on each end and hung it from the ends of the steps. Saw someone on here post something similar last winter and was hesitant about it but it works great because it keeps the loop open. I don't even need anything on the webbing to keep its structure. A set of 4 of these is 3 pounds heavier than my 3 lone wolfs, but it gets me higher and it actually feels lighter to me because they're more compact.

I checked with XOP and the I Beam does not come with a 6 point bracket so you will need to buy 2 when building out option #2 above. A list of everything you will need is...
