Predator First Impression

This definitely isn't sounding good. However, it's a wait and see for myself at this point

I have not got mine yet. Maybe it is shipping with the mantis

I had told Tethrd to ship mine with the Mantis. I think Tethrd is trying to do that with most of the people who ordered both the Mantis & Predator.

We started shipping partials last night.

We wanted you guys to start getting your stuff and playing with it. It's going to cost us more in shipping but you guys have paid a lot in patience already.

Not to mention, I'm running out of room to store all this stuff.

Wow you guys really had some time on your hands this evening.

Let me start by saying nobody is less pleased with the failures we've seen than we are. Its driving me bonkers and I'm working on fixing it.

That being said, we always said we stand by whatever we send out and we mean it. If you break a predator platform, we'll replace it. Today tomorrow, five years from now. We'll replace it.

On the plus side, the failures we've seen aren't really dangerous. The pivot bolt and the main casting structure remain intact. If both teeth sections broke off, you would basically be left with an xop seat which we have all been using for a couple of years.

Look, we want you to use this stuff and beat it up. We want your feed back and ultimately we want saddle hunting to prosper. The best way for that to happen is for everyone to be involved. Everything we have developed was based on input from you guys and I totally expect to continue with the help and input of all Saddlehunters.

Let us know what you like and what you don't. We can take it. And we can use info that to continue to improve and ultimately get more people involved in the joy of saddle hunting.

That is the answer I wanted. Perfect answer Send mine now or I can wait if the mantis will be here soon. I want my platform in Canada by September 20.

I am not worried about a fall. All tethered up

Thanks Ernie

I love my Predator platform. It's exactly what I hoped it would be, and for me the missing link for hunting from a saddle. I started hunting from self designed, homemade lock-on stands using spurs in 1972, and that was well before they were commercially offered. With that said, I believe I know a thing or two about locking one down. And, it doesn't take a lot of pressure for it to be secure and silent. With the strap pulled tight just a moderate amount of pressure to cam it down is enough.

I am really liking my predator so far. I have used the wild edge steps and a ring of steps and what I like most about the predator is my ability to stand with my back to the tree if I need to. I think I am going to add a step(furniture bracket) to the back of the strap on the opposite side of the tree so that I can rotate all the way around the tree without putting side pressure on the stand. That being said putting side pressure on the stand doesn't make any noise and it doesn't come loose, just shifts a little which is not a big deal. Fits perfectly in my daypack also. So far it's a home run for me.

My take on this breakage may be that the tree being used is big enough that most of the pressure is on the outer teeth where it would produce a lot of leverage on the furthest/ weakest teeth.

Well I have more to add. I would imagine that for most of us the diameter of the tree at hunting height will be a lot smaller and the platform will be using the inner teeth which should be stronger.

I just got my platform literally 10mins ago. I really think I am going to like it. I had no issues camming it over and it is rock solid even with side pressure. I definitely think it needs a coating of something to quiet it down a bit while transporting and hanging but other than that I have 0 complaints thus far. I don't have a saddle yet, but do have a Black Diamond rock climbing harness. Other than the comfort of the harness will it have pretty much the same feel of a saddle as far as maneuvering around the tree for a shot?

A bridge will make it easier to pivot and rotate your hips, as opposed to the single point tether at your belay loop. Other than that(and comfort!) should be a great way to practice and get the kinks out.

I'm sure someone has already thought of this, but I just added an old strap on step to a lone Wolf strap I had (It is a little thinner so I figured it was easier to get back through the buckle) to put on the back of the tree. I think it will work great to get farther around the tree. Haven't gotten my bow out yet but it feels like I will be able to rotate to my strong side and shoot around the tree to almost the 10 o'clock position (I am a lefty).

Legit question guys not something to argue. I've seen push it down with one hand, cam it over with your hands,no toe hooking, the question is how much pressure are you allowed to apply. I mean it's not just a question of common sense only, but wouldn't an individuals strength come into play here also? For example your wife hands you a jar she can't come close to opening and you open it with 2 fingers.

I honestly didn't put much pressure at all on it. I just made sure the strap was tight with it folded up, then pressed down with one had. I thought I would have to apply much more pressure to get it tight.....

Someone said that the instructions stated no more than 50lb pressure when camming over.

I don’t know how to accurately judge the pressure. I’ll have to hope that my “stop before breaking” gut feeling is less than 50lb.

I’m pretty familiar with the instructions, but I don’t think they state that anywhere. I don’t know how anyone could accurately gauge applying 50lbs of force with their arms, hands, or legs.
