I’m shocked at sticks winning this. Everyone talks about the Wild Edge steps that I’ve been second guessing my plan on using sticks. Almost talked myself into jumping to WE. Going to stick with sticks for now :) thank you for doing this post/poll!
I think most people have sticks, especially if they came from mobile hunting with hang on stands.

Many people dislike the bulk and either move to or try out other methods. These people are probably more spread out in technique preference, and many may still (unhappily) use sticks. So among the non stick guys i bet you have a ton of sampling and a variety of favored solution.

Sticks alone and with knaider and swaider depending on height i need

I've tried everything and settled on this:

Preset - bolts
Mobile - spurs (where legal), sticks with aider/knaider/swaider

Everything else I've tried ends up on the Island of Misfit Climbing Ideas in the garage.

You didn’t stick with the WE Steps with knaider/swaider over sticks for your mobile setup?

Every once in awhile they slip and twist on me. I'm sure it's my fault...user error...but it happened multiple times this season and I almost had a heart attack every time.

Did you mod the ropes?

After watching your videos many times, I’m shocked you’re a stick guy.

The issue is I'm primarily a bolt/spur guy. On the rare occasion I use a strap on method I've gone back and forth between the Stepp ladders and the sticks. Either will work well. Stepp ladders have a lot more fiddle factor but reduce weight and bulk. It's all about tradeoffs, right?

I have sticks currently with aiders but have WE stepps on order with adjustable aider

No. Maybe amsteel works better?

Maybe. I haven’t ever used WE Stepps. But I’ve messed with tying them on and you have to get them pretty tight. Small margin between being really hard to cam over and too loose.

I'm definitely a spurs guy. I've been playing with bolts and I think if the tree was pre drilled I could really like them. Pre set trees with screw in steps or even cheap ladder sticks are awesome but I seldom get a chance to hunt pre set trees.

In the very rare occasion I can't use spurs, I will take my muddy sticks with 5 step aiders.

They aren't the lightest but they are the easiest to set up. If I ever get the time I want to get a set of helium sticks, cut them down, and add the rope cleat. Then I think they will be light enough and as easy to set as the muddy sticks.

5 or 6 Cranford rope-on folding steps. A five-step aider on each of the bottom two. Been climbing like this for 3 yrs and just can't beat it for packability, weight, and versatility.

Switched to 1/4 amsteel and tested heavily today. Much more solid than ever before. These and 1 stick are my target methods. May steal my son's pole spurs and do some testing too.
