Quitting Coffee for Season

Anybody quit coffee for scent control reasons? Eberhart says he quits in his books. I'm pretty addicted to caffeine so I'm thinking about switching to tablets. What you think?

No can do. I sometime won’t drink it before an AM hunt as it greases the ol plumbing if you know what I mean but as soon as I get back in I usually put a fresh pot on if the wifey hasn’t already.

I don't know how you guys can drink that vile crap.
I do like my caffine, though.
I get mine via some of the flavored water enhancers...Mio is one brand. It comes in an energy formula with caffine, and also comes in non caffine flavors.

Where the skys are so blue!
I think making a dietary change to influence body odor is WAY overanalyzing things, and has a minute change if any. A dog smells like a dog whether he eats Alpo or Science Diet.

I thought about starting a "Performance Enhancers for Deer Hunters" thread a while back, because I believe stimulants on the stand can make a huge impact on your hunt. I know that a 5 hour energy drink stays in my pack, and if I start dragging, I'll shoot it in a heartbeat. Makes 0 sense to be groggy in a tree. Counter productive, and not very safe.

That being said, I look at them as being like fuel enhancers. They don't do anything if there's no gas in the tank, and they won't turn a minivan into a sports car! I believe in exercising, eating right, and sleeping as much as you can during season.

I've lost weight, quit drinking, cut hair, changed jobs, and bought houses to give me an edge deer hunting, but I'll be jingle-jammed if I give up red meat or black coffee. And I wouldn't have somebody in my duck blind that wouldn't share a thermos of coffee with me.

That scent control gets crazier the bigger the buck is your going after. I read an article of a guy that replaces coffee with sugar free Red Bull. I’m still trying to find vanilla gum or something like that. It’s a good scent free idea, although most of my hunts start with Maxwell House at 4am.

I'm going to encourage you to make that "Performance Enhancers for Deer Hunter" thread. I know I'd like to read it. What was your job change that accommodated more hunting? I ask because I've been thinking about something similar.

Just gargle with doe pee. Not tinks though, that stuff's garbage. Only plebes use that junk. Gotta at least use the Code Blue stuff. ;)

During the season I stop drinking coffee first thing in the morning before a hunt, but that’s mostly because I will have to jump out of my tree at some point with a hand full of toilet paper and run like the wind not to foul up my spot.

I am interested in a scent free coffee alternative. I know deer like vanilla. Any ideas?
If you like Maxwell house, I'd stick with it. You're not going to find a scent free beverage you want to drink, especially a vanilla flavored one.

As far as deer liking vanilla, I know that the stuff sure don't grow in my neck of the woods. I can imagine it serving as a curiosity scent for younger deer, but so could Red Man chewing tobacco or Miller Lite.

If you're worried about deer smelling your tasty brew, just drink water. Me, I'll be chugging the oiliest, grittiest coffee my Bunn can muster.

I love my saddle-brothers, but some of y'all have a masochistic streak!

Scent free vanilla drink...

;)

You can’t fool their nose 100%, but I do feel like you can eliminate some human odor in case of a slight wind shift. I’m not saying I want to give up so much I don’t enjoy life, but if the bucks big enough it does make me a little crazy. Squirrel gravy, don’t be using them big words. Massochichalistic...

Ok that's just sacrilegious to even mention such a thing. As far as peeing - once you hit 50 pissing every 5 minutes, especially with colder temps, is just a fact of life - might as well learn to deal with it now. Give up coffee- why I never heard of such a thing..... bring on the tar and feather boys ;)
