Rappelling gear/setup

Thanks for the great video @JCLINE84 and informative thread guys. So let me ask, do you still use a tether when using sticks to climb tree and hunt from a platform or do you girth hitch rappel rope when at platform and use that as a tether? And how long of a rope should I use if platform height is 20 - 25'?

Tether, you don't need that rappel rope dangling and moving all the way to the ground as you move.

See, I just proved common sense isn't so co common. So simple to realize that AFTER reading your post, lol.

Is it ok (meaning safe) to use a piece of Sterling HTP 9mm rope to make a shortened bridge? Or should I go larger? And anyone have an idea of an actual length of rope needed to make a "shortened" bridge, I know knots eat up more length than you think.

I asked that as well and was told it was fine. I decided to go with a 12" Sterling sling instead as its smaller and should work great.

Nice! A sling sounds like a good idea and gets rid of the knots. Thanks dude. Now onto researching slings...this never ends...

Are you girth hitching one side and clipping the other in with a carabiner, or are you passing both through your loops and connecting the ends directly into your rappelling device?
Don't have it yet, but the plan was to girth hitch and use a carabiner. I've seen the post here of the other way, but just seems really short. I won't know till I try it.

I like his method here better than girth hitch one side clip on the other side. Keep in mind that a 12" sterling is a tad shorter than the hollow block he is using in the picture. You may prefer a tad longer sling. A lot of that will be effected by your size. Think hip width.

Got to be the 19" version, seems longer than 13.5". But pics can be deceiving. I went ahead and ordered a 24"/60cm dyneema runner which should be super strong and super light. The dyneema runners all seem to follow the standard sizes of 30cm/60cm/120cm and my 30cm one I have is too short.

I’m “one sticking” up and rappelling down at my current hog hunting spot.

The 12” sterling works great for a bridge but I found I needed a longer bridge to provide appropriate space between my belay device and prusic. Girth hitchhiking 12” loops works so I’ll likely order a single 24” sterling loop. I’m trying s few other options too. Will post pics once I find what worked the best.
