Rated RC Harness loops?

Are they any Rock climbing harnesses with rated gear loopa or linemans loops?

I have a petzl falcon. It’s a type of rescue harness. It has more padding and is beefier than a standard rc harness. I like it but probably wouldn’t recommend it, the legs will rub and swish if you walk with it and because it has more rigidity to it, it isn’t all that comfortable when used with a sit drag. Super comfortable for one sticking and other methods where you have to hang while climbing.

I also have a metolius safe tech deluxe, also a comfortable harness for one sticking and not bad with the sit drag. There’s talk they have rated gear loops but I really think it could be a misconception, I couldn’t find reliable information on that and they don’t look like rated lineman loops. They look like gear loops put it that way. They might be stronger than normal but wouldn’t bet my life on them.

So I know it can be a pain but the mods might be the only way to really get the best of both worlds. I was hoping to find a harness that already had them but I’ve gotten to the point where I plan on modifying some lineman loops on a minimal rc harness maybe for next year.

Sorry for the long post but maybe it will save you some time and money. Good luck in your search though!

Wild Country used to have one. It was called the Elite Syncro. It has a 10 kn haul loop in the back and 6 loops meant to clip carabiners into that are also 10kn rated. The 2 in the front work pedfect for the lineman's belt. While it was a big wall and trad harness it isn't comfortable to sit in by itself.

I have a misty mtn titan aid climbing harness, it has a full strength rear loop, so I girth hitched a couple runners through that, threaded them through, and wrapped them around the load bearing part of the harness in front. Works great. That said, I will probably buy a Mantis this winter/spring.

I think this one from Metolius is rated, you'll have to do a little more research than the Moosejaw info

Metolius harness
The gear loops are not rated. The manual states that trying to use them other than gear storage will most likely end in failure. This is the problem in searching for a good light weight safety harness. The climbing industry doesn't care about rated gear loops. If you need that get an arborist or rescue harness. But those guys dont care about weight. It's a catch 22.

Be careful with the metolius safe tech’s. I spoke with the company and the gear loops are not made to hang from! It’s a pretty big misconception about them.

good to know. thanks!

Question: if you have no intention of using the gear loops, can you remove them from the RCH? Or...do they come in handy at times?

I hang my sticks from them when I am climbing. I clip the bag I store my sit drag and back rest in when I am walking in and out. I clip my bow haul line on one as well. So yeah they are still handy.

FWIW, I’ve heard the gear loops on Metolious are designed the way they are, is for beginners who accidentally hook into a gear loop instead of the belay. So yes, it a way they are meant to support a persons weight.

So from what I've read. This is correct. But according to their manual they have covered their butts and put a warning against it.
