Hope you found him Red. Those quick decision scenarios can be tough and they can work out both ways. I've beat myself up over a few shots I've taken but I've learned from each and every one of them. But letting a bad mood follow you to the treestand? Man I am always zenned out up there. Stress level at work right now is highly elevated, but the thought never crosses my mind when I step in the woods.

Just to follow up, this isn’t your buck right Red? That would be an amazing journey if it was.

Someone in southern Michigan is bumming and upset at their poor shot placement. Hit him in the hind quarter, probably not more than 2 days ago, maybe yesterday. Fortunately this one will go to a good cause and the coyotes still get a gut pile. Our church hosts an annual Wild Game Dinner in February and this one will feed a few people. 225# by my barn scale.
Edit: homeowner actually saw him stumble onto their property this morning - so meat was still good.

Switching to a fixed single pin (hha brushfire) and taking the peep sight off was the best decision I ever made regarding archery tackle. Anything inside 30 is in big trouble, but I can't mentally make myself push past that. Which is a good thing.

Pin on deer, pull trigger, profit.
I would like to hear more about this but probably best done in another thread. I've been thinking of ditching my peep for a couple years but can't seem to commit. I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like it so there must be something wrong with me.

That’s a good buck. It’s great to hear he will be going to a church function and as a bonus you get a set of antlers.

I have been thinking about u Red - I know for certain that deer will have your best shot. I looked for a doe for 8 hours once and found her; looked for a turkey once for 8 hours and never found him. It’s the worst part of hunting Bc - at least for me - I’m only as confident as my last shot.

Fortunately I had some seasoned hunter friends who helped me get back in the saddle pretty quickly - and it helped me become a better hunter. Not better shot, but better hunter.

I really appreciate your post Bc it’s the real.

No luck guys. I ended up finding more blood than I expected but it still wasn't great. Hours and hours of tracking drop by drop on my hands and knees only to loose the blood trail when he went into a field. I managed to pick it up in the middle of the field somehow and then lost it again in another field. Somehow I found 2 drops of blood where he entered the woods on the other side of that field. After that nothing. I searched and searched but I never found more blood or a deer. I strongly suspect a meat shot in the front leg but I'll never know.

Way to put in a good effort for recovery. In the words of @redsquirrel It happens and is just part of bow hunting. Now get out there and stick another one.
Exactly, that is the plan tonight!
One other thought that I meant to mention is that it is the very lowest of lows like the feelings I described that makes the success even more sweet. To me there is no more rewarding feeling than taking a mature buck on public land. That is the moment when all the hard work pays off.

It’s funny how emotional we can get over an animal we want to kill. Two days ago you wanted to throw up. Kill one tonight and you will tear up.
