Roll Up Rope Pouch Clone

I'm just totally thankful for the pouches you sewed up for me. I would someday like to get into sewing myself but that's another rabbit hole.

Cross posting this video series that @always89y did on building one of these:

@4090Sharps thank you for putting this tutorial together. I have never done anything like this before, and this thread is the reason why I tried. Just finished mine up.

Looks good! Don't forget to cut off those noisy metal zipper tabs and replace them with cord.

I got sidetracked with life and a couple other projects, so haven't finished up the instructional pouch yet. I'll do it tomorrow while I work on a long-promised project for another member.

So.... How should I give it away? Anyone want to nominate a friend? Nominated friend needs to be a dues paid SH member.

I got bored and started think about a new design. Let me know what you guys think about my first Prototype design.

planning to add a buckle on the side to make it easier to take the rope in and out.

Cool concept. I'm not sure what you mean by "bucket", so I'm interested in seeing it once added. You may find utility in swapping that black webbing on the side for elastic webbing.

Sorry I meant to say buckle. The buckle will make it so I don’t have to thread the rope and hardware through the hole.

I made one of the roll pouches very similar to the original design at the beginning of this thread. It works well but I’ll be honest, I’ve often thought about something more like what you’ve done here, more of a bucket type approach without the need to roll up. I like it and look forward to seeing what all you do with the design. One thought is to put mesh on the ends, instead of elastic or webbing. The mesh would allow it to breathe and give it a bit of “stretch“ but would also make sure the rope didn’t slide out either end.

Ok here my prototype Ver 0.2. FC2C63B7-DB59-49EB-BB7D-83BA2BA66BC4.jpeg

So I added the buckle to make it easier to load and unload the rope. Also here is a video of why I left one side open.
Video of why I have one side open.
When the rope is rolled up in figure 8 it pulls out with out getting tangled. Let me know what any suggestions you guys have. I can’t really have a final version till I actually get my single step gear. once I actually get the rope I can see if the size is right.

I have to saying it not going to bad for my first original sewing project and only using the sewing machine for just a dozen times or so.

Have you considered making it semi-rigid with some thin HDPE or EVA foam. It could be overkill, but might make it even easier to just drop the rope straight in, with minimal additional weight and bulk.

I have thought about it but the buckle on it right now it only 1.1 g. I will try EVA once I get the my actual rope to make sure the size it right.
