Saddle Hunting Requirements in the 'Sip

Guess my tether-less method wouldn’t fly there.
That's what I was thinking. There are methods that may not fit exactly into how this is worded. You run across a Possum Cop with an axe to grind on some ambiguous wording, next thing you know you are fighting a citation. As @NMSbowhunter stated, there is definitely a "letter of the law and spirit of the law".

My experience is that the Game Warden would be satisfied that you were taking your own safety seriously and would not nit pick a saddle or harness. They would likely be happy to see you were taking the possibility of a fall seriously. All the ones I have me have been good guys.

I agree that the "spirit of the law" is to see people taking safety seriously. Most of the Game Wardens I've encountered in MS and LA, Federal & State have been pretty good..... Most of them. I've experienced more anal-retentive WLF agents while fishing than I have hunting.

Knock on wood, the only time I see game wardens is Turkey season. I used to see them all the time on dove fields as a kid. I think they spend a lot of their time during deer season chasing dog runners who are shooting deer off the roads.

I must not have met the same wardens you have. Either that, or they hate Ooser’s.

Well, most of my encounters with MS Wardens was in the Homochitto National Forest. Fishing primarily, and some hunting. They stop EVERYONE fishing there at Lake Okhissa, Rednecks and Coonasses.

I also find they’re more polite when you’re holding a gun, but not as worried about you sticking a hook in their lip.
