I feel I had success today because of my Guido's Web. For the record I have used the Web Twice. Once last night and then again this morning.
I was actually hunting a tree with a lock on stand already attached this morning. I just used the seat part of that stand as my left foot rest and my strap on steps for my right foot rest (did not have to mess with climbing sticks this way
).
The stand faces the field I was hunting. I was in my Web with my left shoulder facing the field. About 8am two Does walked out into the field and looked right up at the stand and me sitting next to it. Spotting me, they both ran for the hills. These deer must know the stand is there. The stand has been on this property for 2 years and this was my first hunt from it (it's a friends stand). I decide to adjust my set up and rotate to the right to the back side of the tree. I am now facing the field but have the tree between me and the field. At 8:45am I see a Buck enter the field from the same place as the Does and he does exactly what the Does did, look right up at the stand. Only this time I was hidden behind the tree. He cautiously walks right where I need him to go. Once his head passes in front of a low bush I rotate back to the left side of the tree, draw, and release the arrow for a double lung shot.
I must admit that I was a bit nervous hunting from the web last night and this morning. I had not had a chance to shoot from the Web before hunting with it. I did do a lot of simulated draws from all the angles I could put the Web in. Those nerves are now gone.
I believe my success today was a direct result of being able to hide my self behind the tree and rotate from behind for the shot. My buddy thought I was nuts for bring my Web to an existing stand, but I wanted the comfort and the ability to switch my set up on the fly if need be.
I can not emphasize enough that this is the most comfortable stand I have ever sat in. Stay away was a challenge.
While the Web is not perfect in every way, I feel that those few shortcomings can be easily overlooked for its strengths!
Peace
Carl
