Set up video by @boudreaux

My time from ground to height is very similiar with a pre pruned tree. A few minutes longer on a fresh tree.
Excellent video

Great video!! I'm really liking all these setup vids from the different members. I plan to make my own very soon as well

With a red squirrel/Dave T aider setup you could lose 1 or two sticks
Good video though

How high do you get with just the 4 sticks and no aiders? Very good information!
I can get between to 18-21’ with 4 sticks and my platform. I measure to my hip as that is where I am.

I don’t use aiders anymore, they are a accident waiting to happen. I would rather carry an extra stick, than deal with aider. I tested a product for guy back in 2009, that was a single aider product that attached to the stick and then could be rolled up and stored on the stick. It never made it to market......

Stay tuned there is a climbing down video coming soon, nothing special about it. But, you get to see the process in reverse.

Thanks,
Boswell

Pretty much exactly how I set up except I use 3 sticks and aider.

Awesome video but honestly the only thing we have in common is the Kestrel. :tearsofjoy: Climbing method(s), linemans belt, bridge, hook ups, tether, platform, bow holder, accessory hook, pull up method...yep, all completely different. It's great to see your setup and I'm digging your content lately.

U slide mini has me intrigued. Have you used it with a trad bow?

Yes, U-slide works well with the trad bow as well. You have to adjust the U that holds the bow to a different angle.

I try to keep my saddle and gear as stock as possible, this is because I want to stay as relatable as possible to the new saddle hunters or the people making the transition to saddle hunting. My goal is to grow saddle hunting as much as possible, staying a close to "stock" as possible makes it more relatable and less intimidating to the newer people.

Thanks,
Boswell

Thanks for doing that Boswell. You actually taught me to use the old TL Saddle with your videos; and now I'm ready for a Kestral. Keeping it "stock" actually makes it easier for me to look into mods once I learn the basics; watching you however reminds me that the basics are the true lesson here.

Great video. Very helpful for guys starting out. Awesome job!

One recommendation - tie into your tether/tree strap before you climb onto your platform. Or at the very least, before you start setting up the tree with your accessories. At one point you strapped the main rope around the tree and let it hang while installing your pack hanger and bow holder. I would have clipped in right then and given myself some slack to work with.

While a lineman belt is awesome, it doesn't provide the same fall protection as the tether. Maybe you normally do this, but forgot to show it in the video? If your step platform failed for some unknown reason (however unlikely that might be), you're in for a very painful descent.

That's my only suggestion. You have your system locked down in every way. It's fast, efficient, and easy to duplicate. Nice job!

That makes me look like a turtle! I take about 12 minutes to climb a fresh tree and get setup. It is a little slower setting up the Stepp ladders as well with my setup. Very impressive.

This is a valid concern, I don't do this. I use my linemans belt, I KNOW any fall with a linemans belt will not be good, but I know it will end better than falling without one. It is something that I should considering doing though,

Thanks,
