I have decided to quit carrying all that rope to rappel and just spur back down. Takes a bit of time to get the rope out of tree and packed up and head back out when I'm done hunting.
Hopefully only having to pack spurs it will be easier.
I think I'll like this better and plus I will be making me another lineman belt/tether so it will be easier to navigate limbs and forks.
Opinions?

I don’t know. Seems perfectly sensible to me. I want to SRT this year but I’m Not sure about it yet

Yeahh, I've always wondered about that too. Rapelling is a blast been doing it for kicks since I was about 14 but unless you are climbing ropes can't figure out why anyone would do it hunting unless they are just trying to do something unique.

I got all the stuff to do it, but I was never able to justify carrying all the rope during a hunt when I already had a descent way to get down using my spurs.

I stopped as well. Just too much extra stuff going on to come down 25’ lol. My rope was constantly getting stuck and then when it came loose would be in a giant tangled mess in the brush that took a solid 10 minutes to get rolled up and packed. When it’s dark and cold the last thing I wanted was to mess with that rope. Spurring back down is no issue at all. Very easy to do.

The only thing about spurring down to me is putting your spurs back on in the tree. I have no issues climbing up or down, but it can be a pain to be them back on when you're on a step platform. I'm planning to use the predator platform on my mobile spur hunts so I can stop carrying rappel gear too. That should make them easier to put back on.

have you tried eye-level like @huck72412 does? :D

I have also come to a similar conclusion - lots of extra rope/gear to exit the tree. I'll probably do it a couple times in season - but with spikes you really have a great way to come down already...

I bought all the rope and all and was surprised how much room a 35’ rope takes up. @Erniepower is using a lot smaller rope than I have. If you are using srt to climb it’s a no brainer to rappel down but I’ll just use spurs coming down. I guess I will also use @huck72412 method of putting them on at eye level. Still waiting on the video.

How much rope was everyone taking with them?

I am only seeing rope in lengths greater than 100 feet and thought of cutting off a smaller section to take with me but will have to find out the proper way to “close” the stands.
