Tethrd Phantom vs. WE Yarak?

That’s interesting. They haven’t updated the weight of the flex. The kestrel was right at 3 lbs. The flex was listed at 2 lbs as a single layer of cordura. Not the end of the world. I’d like to sit in the flex and yarak. Right now I think if I had to hunt in an aerohunter saddle it would be the kite.

I want the kite too
It’s on my list of saddles to buy this year
Getting wife and kids into this was good and bad
She never says a word against me doing anything hunting related, but I end up buying her (and now the kids) a lot of the same gear

This video makes me interested in the phantom.
Yes it is a promo but it is an interesting comparison and how can you not want to watch a @flinginairos video.
I guess I can post this especially when I do not like the mantis and I am not a pro
I think Tethrd heard my complaints - the mantis is not comfortable. They have tried to address comfort. The video makes me want to try the phantom.

I was all set on getting the Flex or the Yarak when available. But the Phantom has me second guessing. I definitely was not going to get a Mantis.

I’m not sure there will be more Yaraks?
I’ve asked quite a few times and no response

And yeah I think kite will nestle into my saddle harem well

Yea I am probably going to buying one when they go on sale. I thought old @flinginairos gave a pretty in depth comparison between the 2 saddles.

I got an email last week from them. Said they will be coming soon and to sign up for notifications.
I have No idea in what capacity.

I was actually saying that seeing @Erniepower post here anymore is like seeing a unicorn, however, I thought the same thing you posted as well.
Man I miss you guys. I don't get on here nearly as much as I used to.

As far as a Yarak comparison, I haven't been able to get my hands on one.

That’s odd I’m on their lists and haven’t seen anything

If you let me order a Phantom right now I can compare the 2... ;)

While I havent hunted out or the Mantis, Phantom, Flex or Yarak, Ive made clones of and spent more than 10 hours in each. I found the phantom design to be the most comfortable. The weight savings is a bonus, as is the reduced fiddle factor. Managing the pleat on the Flex and Yarak clones was a PITA in my opinion. Especially the mesh pleat. The Phantom clone seems to be the right size to get as much cupping as I needed. I also made a pleated Phantom clone. Same result. Mesh pleats are a PITA. I have a heavy duty zipper in route that im going to add to the pleat to see if that makes a difference.

Each of the saddles I made were done so using measurements I came up with based on photos found on the interwebs. I used the assumed webbing width and calculated the length and width of each saddle, bridge loop and linemans loops. I found what I thought was comparable material and put them together. The Flex clone I made was more like the current version, with double material to avoid the problems of edges fraying and pulling from the binding.

With the Flex and Yarak clones, I Did not use the heavier chassis webbing that the manufactures use. Dont think its necessary and cannot comment as to whether or not that makes a difference in comfort. I did use leg buckles on the flex. I dont see any purpose in them as I havent been in a situation where I felt insecure with g-hooks. Leg straps and waist buckle are not load bearing for me.

Did not like the Mantis. Wasnt for me at all. That was the first design I tried to clone, so that may have had something to do with it!

I’ve tried both the Yarak and phantom and for me the phantom is a better saddle.
I just don’t care for the pleat walking in with the saddle on.
I feel Tethrd has found a saddle design that just simply works without all the bulk.
We are all different in size and setup style so others may have a totally different opinion between these two saddles.
You will have to try both yourself to know which one is best for you.
