Im getting into saddle hunting and think ive decided on the phantom but platform wise, im not decided. If cost wasnt an issue, which would you pick and why? If you have tried one or the other please note that too!

It just depends on what size you think you’ll need or want. I don’t see the need for a bigger platform myself so I’d go with the Predator for packability. Everyone is different tho!

I always had a problem getting around for a weak side shot on the predator. I don’t know why. I practiced and just couldn’t get it. I will be trying out the ambush.

The ambush is extremely flat and packable
I have big feet so I prefer it.
The predator left things to be desired size wise especially for leaning around trees to get certain shots and would require a side step for me in certain instances.
If cost isn’t an issue then buy the ambush
If for some reason you decide you want something smaller there’s always a lone of people that will buy it .
The predator has been around awhile and is older tech since new and improved have come out since then.
If you want to spend the same as a predator and have more space go with
Out On A Limb manufacturing’s Ridge Runner

It’s the best of both worlds and almost half the cost of the ambush. And it has an adjustable knob to control the tilt of the platform when u set it so u can really fine tune it for when trees aren’t always perfectly straight.
I use my Ridge Runner ALOT

I’ve attached a pic
It’s awesome and the manufacturer is a really cool guy that cares about what he does and the things he makes.

predator has been outstanding for me and the pack is great too. I switched to saddle for more light portable opportunities. The LWCG is just too big IMO.

The ridge runner look good too but the predator has worked for me. I have a gen 1 predator and have always been concerned about a failure. Now they are going to replace them I am a satisfied customer. I do not want a bigger platform I often only use squirrel steps

I have both and have used both, and I feel both have their place. The predator is smaller and more packable, fit inside my pack nicely with room to spare for additional layers, etc. This is definitely going to be the more mobile of the 2, and you can cam this over solidly and tightly. However, in the tree for long several hour sits it wasn't a natural sit, feet can't get shoulder width apart. The Ambush, by design, is bigger and packing is a bit more of an issue. You can use the provided backpack straps, or strap to the outside of your pack. Additionally, you can really get it to cam into the tree, so much so that camming over can be an issue. Using their process you can get the Ambush very solid. In the tree is where the Ambush shines. For long all day sits my stance is more natural such that I can have my feet shoulder width apart or together if I so choose. Also, I can move around on both (specifically off side shots where you stand and turn) but because the Predator is smaller, your movements have to be more deliberate, where with the Ambush you have a little more room to turn. I am comfortable doing so in both (shot 2 deer from the weak side from the Predator) but you have to be more cognizant of your feet when making that move on the Predator.

Both of these have their place and I will continue to use both. If I am going to be scouting around & picking a spot, ala "run & gun", I'll opt to go with the Predator as it is a couple lbs lighter and more compact. If I have a spot that is already picked & prepped, &/or will be sitting all day, I'll use the Ambush.

Never tried the Ambush but have owned a few of the Assassins.
Trophyline days.

Predator is strapped to my sticks and strap to pack .
At the tree I’m connecting predator to my saddle molle with small carabiner For climb.
Wear my backpack up climbing while setting sticks.
Grab predator Off at height and attach while still wearing my pack.
Assasin/Ambush I had shoulder straps and wore climbing up tree Just like a pack,
Never gave Assassin a try with packs attached as these were the Trophyline days.

My opinion on the Ambush/Assassin ,
If your hunting specific area/deer and your preset and going to stand lean
with limited gear .
These size platforms are better option in place of Hang on .

I use the ridge runner, podium, and predator really can’t spend the $ on a lwcg. It’s just too hot to haul this stuff in everyday in Florida archery season. Podium and ridge runners are on my presets. Tethrd is my go to mobile platform. I did chain a Tethrd onto a tree with a lock , but was worried that it would get stolen. It was just so deep in the woods, that it really wasn’t an issue.

When you get it & fall in love with it ,sell me that assassin.........

Here is his old assassin, I spent the year in a predator, usually with a bolt on each side to adjust my feet positioning. Wanted a bigger platform but was scared of the quality issues with the first release ambush. The predator is very packable and was fine hunting off of. I wanted something with more room. Like anything saddle hunting it’s a very personal preference and you will have to try stuff out. If lwcg got their stuff figured out you will be happy. I wear size 14/15 boot for reference.

This is a very interesting picture. Looks like the Predator's structural design is a close match to the inner part of the Assassin. I suppose all those that yearn for a larger model wish that they had gone one "column" further (on each side). I wonder how the weight would have come out if so. Tradeoffs as always.

Where the skys are so blue!
I share @enkriss' opinion. The predator was too small for me and I never felt comfortable putting side pressure on it. I bought an ambush mainly just to play with it and seenhownit packed with sticks, and holy cow.

For me, a bigger platform is where it's at if I'm not going to use a ROS. It let's me spread my feet, and gives me room to maneuver for shots without having to load the edges. It also works very well as a "pack." It caries sticks well, you can strap a small backpack or fannypack to it for gear, you can strap clothes to it, and you can even strap quarters to it. That last bit isnt fun, but it worked to get a doe a mile and a half back to the truck.

The LWCG stuff is expensive, but it works well. It's the only platform/stick combo that I've actually liked. Stood on it from 5am to 6pm yesterday, and logged about 6 miles with it on my back.

Below is a (bad) pic of me packing out my doe. I was scheduled to be on a podcast that evening, and had to get back FAST. No time to walk back out and grab my old quartering pack, so I jury-rigged something together with the platform strap and my linemans belt.

To be fair airos, you're kind of biased, Just sayin

I’m just about done with this forum. It’s not like I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours actually hunting from this stuff I’ve never told anyone they needed to buy our products. there are absolutely other options.

I thought your initial response was a solid response, and politically correct so to speak. With your vendor rep badge, signature line, and soon to be updated profile pic to a tethrd logo ;) that last comment is completely unnecessary. I will delete it.

For the record, this thread should have been started in the Product reviews in the vendor section. This not saddle related, but platform related and vendor specific research..
