Tethrd Spliced Ropes - First Look

For me the difficult step with the predator was getting to Point Z in the step 6 of the printed pdf instructions. I found if I tapered the core some ahead of passing it thru it helped. Step 8 is where the blisters come in.:D

For those that try to splice Predator....May God have mercy on your soul!

I did it successfully on my first try but trust me, it ain’t easy. Practice on some Yale Bandit first its much easier.

Yeah, when I saw only $25 from Wesspur per splice I considered it money well spent. I gave up when I tried splicing predator

I wholeheartedly agree.

Depends on the individual rope. I've spliced some that were fairly easy and some that were incredibly difficult. Yale bandit was actually a pretty easy splice. Samson Predator on the other hand was pretty difficult. Seems to depend on how tight the outer cover braid is. There are some very helpful videos out there on splicing double braid rope.

Having been inspired once again by G2s video I took a swing at splicing Samson Predator and failed miserably. Not being one to give up easily, I failed again later that evening. I was able to get the core out after probably 15 sweaty minutes only to be denied when trying to reintroduce it later. In the end I decided the Predator is aptly named, it had me for lunch and dinner.

Now that Im in the market for new ropes, anyone have a recommendation for a more reasonable splicing rope? Im running the Ropeman 1 so I believe I need 7/16” or 1/2”.

From what I see the linesman rope is 8'. I climb some big trees up here in Canada, and the test climbs I have run have left me wanting a longer linesman belt. Can slightly longer lengths be requested?

I think they mentioned in another thread that they are not looking at any rope customizations in the near future. I would look at ordering them custom from a company like Wesspur. The price will astound you, and it really puts the reasonable price of the stock Tethrd ropes in perspective.

Ya, I have seen Wesspur's prices. At this time I do not posses the skills required to splice my own ropes and would prefer to buy. If I could support Tethrd, I would/will.

I just got a 2" spliced eye predator. Tried girth hitching it to my harness...aint happening. The bury feels like it's got a steel rod in it.

Just get the length you need and put a figure 8 knot in it. That’s what I used all last season. It’s really no big deal.

Confirmed. I tried beating it into submission with a rubber mallet then even stuck it in a vise to work it around a bit. Wasn't happening. I think I'll keep it as a backup weapon.

Fourth time with the predator is the charm! Only three more to go. NOT... or maybe it should say knot!

Made a third attempt and finally got a decent eye spliced. That was a pain in the butt!
