Yeah man I bought into the hype and picked up a Marsupial Gear harness, and for every reason you listed, ditched it. Additionally, found the magnetic closure had a pretty big effect on nav gear if it was within 6 feet.

6 feet? That seems like a lot.

I just got the new FHF FOB harness and the magnets have no effect on a compass as long as I’m about 1/2 an arm’s length (elbows tucked into my stomach) from the pouch. I tried it with a Suunto MC-2 and a standard USGI lensatic compass. I had to have them pretty tight to the magnet before there were issues.

Curious if you really find it worth the extra trouble just to have the magnetic closure?

Theres no extra trouble associated IMO. I’ve always tucked my elbows in when taking a reading, and I don’t have to do anything different with the harness. These are small magnets, just little thin strips to snap the lid into place.

If I remember tonight I’ll try and get a measurement of how close I have to be before the needle gets screwed up.

I just don't see a problem with it in any practical way for myself. I get what the complaints are but they have never been an issue and the magnetic closer just flat works better than any other option.

Horn Hunter OP-X is working good for me. It has a magnetic closure which I like...They come in two sizes - I use the standard...
I was just going to say this. I have this one, which includes a rangefinder pouch and cover. However, I have started only using it for turkey season here in MI. I like that it opens away from your body and has magnetic closures. It has a zipper pouch on the back of it, and plenty of spots to add other things. I hook a turkey pot call pouch to the other side, and the inside has enough room for my bino's plus some extras like a shock call or something. Sometimes I even throw my phone in there.

I don't like the interior material, since it squeaks against my bino's when I'm removing them or putting them back. That's the main reason I don't use it for deer hunting anymore. Instead, I run a Rick Young harness too. Super light, compact, doesn't get in the way of my bridge and shooting, and during a lot of scouting in the early season it doesn't cause me to overheat.

I went ahead and ordered a fhf bob and have had it about a week. Been shooting in the yard and walking around with it some and it's amazing. I don't see anything about the kifaru that looks like it would make it comparable.

I’m looking to get away from magnets and looks like the FHF has them.

Don't see how FHF can compete considering all the deluxe versions of their competitors for way way less.

Ive tried a lot and use a marsupial some but my go to is RYO. Simple, effective and it's the coolest one I've worn which is nice bc its hot a lot of times where I hunt. I've found the marsupial seems to get in the way a lot when I saddle hunt so I don't wear it much

So after most of the season is over, a quick review of the Kifaru harness. Overall, pretty good. The compass I keep inside never went bad, since there are no magnets. My 10x binos never fell out. The pocket on the back holds a set of pruners, though those will fall out if you bend over. The extra pouches are so-so; the zippered one held a rangefinder securely, the unzippered one held misc gear. The unzippered one has a tendency to open on it's own, maybe because I didn't put enough stuff inside to actuate the closure sufficiently. Biggest drawback with the harness is the oversized quick release buckles. Underneath the bridge loops of my saddle, these buckles create pressure points that can be uncomfortable after a few hours.

FHF Pro M here. Hunted this past week with it. Only thing I wish it had was a spandex pouch on the front for my phone. It also has the rangefinder pouch mounted to the side. Size, weight, and functionality, all there. Didn't interfere with the wearing of my X2 pack.

I got a Pro M this year and it has worked flawless. I'm a big fan.
