First step: Soak in gasoline
Second step: Strike match
Third step: toss match towards soaked material
Fourth step: sit back and enjoy your hard work

Haha, I don't really care either way unless it's that 4 letter word to the South East, but I thought I'd get some state fans to react :)

Oh, mine is a light ripstip type of material which will be good for early season.

How noisy is the ripstop? I was thinking of using some for a build. It seems really slippery and pretty quiet in my hammock and that is 1.6 ounce hyper D.

The one I have now is in hyper D which is very quiet compared to other similar fabrics.

I can’t wait to spend some time in my hammock saddle this season! It’s much more comfortable than the sitdrag of which I have been a huge fan. I just don’t know if it will last as long.
Also, for the price you can make a few and still be ahead...

I just want to thank all y’all that contributed to the technical aspects of this thread. It needs to be a sticky. You provided the inspiration for me to make my DIY fleece saddle:

32” x 24”Asymmetrical pleated design utilizing HD zip tie whipped ends with 8” Amsteel hammock suspension loops w/cinch buckles. Fleece is doubled, not a stitch sewn. Took less than an hour, and about 45 minutes of that was mostly unnecessary OCD-related fussing over measurements & alignment perfection that matters not at all except to me.

I intended to just hunt out of my New Tribe Tengu this fall and I’ve been practicing that way since I found this place, but I couldn’t get the easy hip rotation a bridge provides. So for a few bucks and a few minutes I made what I think turned out to be a pretty dope hang! I played with it both outside & inside of the Tengu, and both are acceptable, but inside the harness hugs me like a Woobie. I used a double-locking knot on the left cinch buckle and am allowing adjustability on the right side to experiment with bridge length. The tubular webbing is fluid-like through the ‘biner and when I move around the tree it probably looks like the Matrix.

I’m pretty pumped I did this, and am again grateful to this forum for providing me with yet another rabbit hole to lose myself in.

BEST THREAD EVER!

Can you repost the URL? It didn’t come through for me. Also, I am interested in the details of

Thx.

That New Tribe saddle with the comfy seat seems like all you need with no other saddle needed. How is the comfort of that alone?

Do you think tubular webbing could directly cinch to the fleece without the Amsteel?

Do you have cinch buckles on both sides connecting web bridge to the Amstel?

Is there a certain cinch buckle to use for our application? This is pretty much what I’m about to start on, but was going towards a fixed bridge. I like this idea much better.

It’s very comfortable, as it’s designed for sitting. The only downside is with a single point connection to the tether hip rotation is limited and always pulling back to center. It’s usable for sure, but the fleece and bridge allows that rotation, which is a big plus for cheap.

The webbing could easily be directly attached. I chose the Amsteel & cinch buckles for easy adjustability since I’m a new saddle hunter and learning what works best for me.

These are the Amsteel/buckle combos I found on Amazon:

I used them on both sides, but you really only need them on one. They are 8” continuous loops, which only allowed me a single girth hitch around my ends. If they were longer (preferable) you could do the double locking girth hitch that Dave shows in his video, which would be mo’ better. The HD zip ties I used to whip the ends create a valley for the Amsteel girth hitch to nest in and the knob of that zip tie helps to capture that hitch on the inside of the whip. Hope that makes sense.

Are the amsteel suspension loops girth hitched to fleece?
How do you get them on the slider?
Can you provide a “shopping” list for all but the fleece?
I’d like to try that connection method for my fleece.

I have a whoopie sling on my sit drag and like the adjustability. On my fleece with amsteel, I do not have quick adjustability.

Thanks!

No, I’m using tubular webbing that I had on hand from some climbing gear. The webbing that comes with the buckles is flat. I wouldn’t be bothered by using it, but I had the tubular webbing available, so I used that instead. YMMV.
