The ultimate ultralight saddle?

So what's the consensus on this? Bridge or no bridge? I really like this idea and plan on making one of these. Also, when doing the sheet knot are you guys just using webbing slings or amsteel?

After 2.5 seasons in a fleece saddle, I can’t see much I’d change from the original design. I did experiment with shortening up the length of my fleece (I used the fold over method) to where my continuous loops barely reached my caribiner on my tether. I found this greatly restricted the spreadability of the material and increased pressure points. However, I hunted most of 2018 with it set up this way, until just last weekend I adjusted my knot back out so there was a good 20-24” of material on either side of me reaching almost up to eye level. Huge difference in comfort. I have yet to use a bridge on this setup because I can move just fine within the fleece seat because I am not actually strapped to it.

Thanks Sam! So about how long total is your fleece?

Ya I wished I had tried a fleece saddle before I waited on the Mantis. Sold it all and staying with the fleece. For next year, it might be a little warm for early season? I am thinking about making one out of the same mesh material the mantis uses in the same way as the fleece saddle. Not sure it would tie up nice.

The only thing I don't like about my fleece saddle is the bulk.

I've been thinking about adding a bridge because I have found that with my sitdrag I could rotate and the bridge moves through the biner with the fleece as I try and rotate it seems to hold me back as the fleece sticks to my clothing.

I’m intrigued with the fleece saddle idea. Just not exactly sure what I’m doing. I think this is going to be a winter project this year.

You guys that are using a fleece saddle, do you use a lineman’s belt with it while climbing?

I use an RCH with a tubular web linesman tied around it for climbing. I do not connect or use the fleece saddle until I am up top.

it's in the backpack till i get set up in the tree, RC harness with climbing sling girth hitched to the belt for linesman's loops.

60"x24" Fleece doubled over to make it about 30x24"
Triple Stitch channels at each end (one end's channel is the folded material but I stitched next to that as well.
Feed Amsteel loops through (I tied mine with water knots) and girth hitch to themselves cinching down the fabric.
I hung it up on carabiners with a 24" sling bridge. Works great. Silent, warm (bad in hot months)stretches a lot at first. Not quite as adjustable as the nylon hammock material but you can spread out the load very well and you can full on sit in it.

This is GREAT for 'leaners'. It would also make an excellent back band for the Evo. I will be doing that for sure.

I like this idea a lot for where I hunt. It gets cold in Nov and Dec

Yes. What’s involved. How do you attach the bridge, etc. ?

DaveT did a good video on making one here...

I used this to make my ends (someone else posted this somewhere but couldn't find that chat)...

I wear my mammut rch in. I use a linemans belt climbing up. After I layer up in the tree, i bust out the fleece saddle with the sit drag attached for back band. I put my head and body through the bridge and connect to tether. Very comfortable.

I'll try to take some photos tomorrow or maybe a short video of my setup, I just use 550 cord for my bridge and I just made channels and sewed em three times and put a 550 cord loop through it and tied a bridge between the 2, I need to shorten it up, so maybe after I do that I'll take a few photos/video.
