Travel Trailer Rehab Project

That's the only issue with campers, once the water gets in unless the campers are used regularly it goes unnoticed and it messes them up bad. I've repaired a few and they usually come out great but I can remember one my friend did where after the tear out he wasn't able to save the camper shell and it became a utility trailer.

July 3 5 more man hours. Demo demo demo. Took out closets and shower and more flooring / wet insulation.

June 24 - 5 1/2 more man hours on demo. Removed partition walls in front bedroom and OSB floor and insulation. Have some joists to cut and remove as well still and still see wet insulation under the furnace ducts, so we need to get under there too. Began removing shower walls and vinyl flooring in bathroom. Water damage there is not as bad. Also tore out stove (which is still in good shape) / water heater (trash) / water pump (trash) / kitchen plumbing (trash) to get to floor - which shows water damage over to the fridge. Looking like we may have to remove fridge. Will start with removing the vent to see but had hoped to not have to remove the whole thing. Still grinding to get to the end of demo. We do believe demo will be the hardest part of this whole thing. Man I hope I'm not wrong!

Next priority is the roof. Going over this whole EPDM vs TPO vs Flex Armor. Have an opinion? Let me know. I'm sure Flex Armor is going to be pricey, but it's the clear winner in longevity. Just not sure we need to spend that. Price quote is still pending, and they install it at their site. Some of our other plans are to put all new plumbing system in, including tankless water heater. Debating on the stove - it's in good shape but we can't imagine using an oven. If you have an RV / camper and have an opinion on this let me know. I'd like to not buy another appliance, so debating on a cooktop only.
Keep the oven! On our elk hunts, we all are responsible for bringing casserole style funders that can be heated up in the oven. It's a great way to lower food good cost and an easy hot meal in camp. We freeze them and pull that days dinner out in the morning to thaw

We do this as well and works great. We have a portable propane oven we setup in the canvas cook tent. Only difference is we bring casserole style dinners instead of funders

I like that thinking. We are at a point where the other costs have made the decision for us as well.

July 2 and July 9 - 5 more man hours in demo - another hour lost in fixing the tarp on the roof that got blown around in a big storm. Working on filling the dump trailer again after overfilling it the firs time. More flooring came out with more wet insulation underneath. The entire floor is coming out except where the furnace and fridge are housed. Going to cut around that spot and pull insulation out from underneath. What remains for demo is a few feet of flooring and ductwork and some floor plates on the walls that rotted out and 2 more roof rafters. Lights are working off the DC power and new battery so that was a win. Plan is to complete demo tomorrow. Ordering framing materials today and hope to start building her back up very soon. Hopefully more updates tomorrow evening

July 18 last day of demo! 12 man hours. Began replacing rotten floor joists and base plates after completing a long demo.
July 19 six guys 40 man hours. Began installing the floor and tyvec in the walls and finished blowing in all the insulation. repaired the rotten plywood on the roof and remove all of the vents domes and HVAC from the roof and got the new roof membrane put on.

When you're all done, let us know if you'd do it again :)
I rehabbed a popup and then a cargo trailer. Last cargo trailer bought mostly done by the factory then just added some touches on the inside.

Cool project! You’ll be happier in the end if don’t calculate your hourly labor costs into the total cost of the project when it is all done :).

I can answer that now LOL. On a smaller scale I would. If I had seen @kyler1945 ‘s 5 weeks ago that would have been a slam dunk.

I feel like an idiot for not posting it 6 months ago when I first knew I wouldn’t be finishing it

Last 3 weeks have been pretty slow with vacations and work travel. Probably got 8 more hours in. All the sub flooring is in and front, back and side rails for roof membrane are back on.
Next week we get serious on re-framing walls we tore out and putting the wall material up, running new plumbing, installing new lighting, installing new cabinets (which we scored for free) and installing a new shower. The season will be here soon so we gotta giddyup. Crappy thing is this project is totally competing with any lease prep work I need to do!

I feel for you. I am in the middle of turning a 12'x20' storage building into a small cabin on some property I bought. It's amazing how much time and money you can end up investing in such a small space.

So funny you posted that. I have 18 acres I need to do that on before we build a house. That’s the next project

It’s been about a year since we got this thing and we didn’t touch it from Sept - March. Finally have spent a few weekends getting to it again. Decided to move it to the lease and spend 3 day weekends on it vs having it 10 minutes from our homes and ironically having no time to work on it LOL. Crazy how that is! Anyway we have floors! We have shelves and a kitchen. We have a completed bedroom. Next up is kitchen sink cut out, plumbing hook ups and rebuilding the shower. And build some new bench cushions and table for the dinette area. Been staying in it all spring and shot two turkeys this spring under 109 yards from her :)
