Treebolts revisited

With some practice, your holes will end up at virtually the exact same spacing every time. This makes it WORLDS easier to find them. Once your spacing is down, a small headlamp is all you need to see the holes. I find most of them by feel.

This right here. It is ridiculously simple once you have a routine

I use a small loop of 550 paracord to wrap around the bit before pushing the bit back into the slot. The noisiest part of using this is getting that darn bit out of the slot.

you aint kidding....that bit is sharp! I have thought about trying to pry the slot a little wider, but don't want to "screw" anything up!

How about a reflective tack directly below or above each hole?

Got it done. I put milk jug washers between all the metal parts as well. Getting that handle off and back on isn't easy.

That'll work. I always thought that reflective spray paint would be good. You can only see it when a light is shined on it. It would work in the dark anyway.

Some guys score the bark above the bolt with their hand saw. Makes it real easy to see where the hole is. Like BassBoysLLP said though, after a while it'll get to be second nature.

What about sticking a piece of fluorescent plastic fishing line or tubing. Leave enough sticking out and it ought to be obvious, even in low light. Found this @ Walmart, there are many options that glow in the dark. 3EA9DBAB-E1DA-4F7E-878B-2C3B5E2A1746.jpeg

You can do that, but if they fall out you won't see them. If they get frozen in you'll have to drill them out. You'll have to stuff them in your pocket when you put bolts in. Mark the tree, less to carry, easy to see, won't be so noticeable to other hunters.

I drilled some holes for steps a week ago, left twigs in the holes and took the bolts home, yesterday the twigs were still in the hole even after a hard rain and high winds. Confident I can do the bolts in the dark now, will still use a headlamp on red beam. Bolts rock, cant believe I am just now learning about them,
