What about it Hybrid fans?

How easy is it to shoot to your weak side? And what’s the process to do so?

Easy, just roll your hips to allow the bridge to slide towards the weak side, cross step feet while standing on ladder stick and you can shoot .

My preference. ....
I normally am sitting, so I just move whale tale to the left about 2 to 8 inches (depending on tree size) and slowly ease around the tree to the left and I'm able to shoot from straight behind the tree (12 o'clock ) clear around to the 3:30 to 5 o'clock region (right handed). This way I have no weak side.

I have no problem but I am the wrong guy to ask because I use a crossbow due to shoulder issues.. Good question though. I lean back and move around the tree to shoot from a standing position so that my bow limbs clear the tree. I am sure I could do it sitting too.
Really should not be any different than any other saddle with steps... I take my shoulder straps off and if I stand up I lean back so the hybrid does not fall off. Or keep one shoulder strap on.

Well, it happened.
Spur up a pine today and my left spur kicked out causing me to fall about 10 feet. I'm fine no injuries.
The hybrid and the lineman's rope stopped the fall with no issues. What was wierd about the whole fall was, I stayed calm! I told myself, "ride this out, it's not bad". About that time is when the lineman's belt stopped me. I think that if the bark of the pines was not just peeling away, the lineman's belt would have stopped the fall sooner. I had the hybrid in hiking mode with the leg straps attached for climbing and the hybrids leg straps did it's job.
Today I turned fifty and my first climb at fifty was something to remember. Thanks to our Lord above,.

Glad your ok.
That’s one way to get the heart pumping!

Is there anything you would change after that experience?

How was you lineman belt wrapped around the tree?

Lineman's belt was in a regular hook up.
Change...stay away from tree more and start trying to climb hardwood trees instead of softwood.

I’ve been practicing on a birch. No kick out “so far.”

I’ve been using the flinging x with my LB. On descent I use both LB and tether.

It takes longer but makes me feel better.

Again, I’m glad you’re not hurt.

Good hunting.

Thank you

Glad your OK Autumnrider!

I was able to get some good hours in the Hybrid over this weekend, unfortunately no videos this weekend as it kept raining on and off.

The comfort of this puppy is legit. I was able to pack in my FL Sanctuary Jacket and put that on after cooling down from the walk/climb while in the Web at height with no trouble whatsoever. Pivoting on the whale tail to look around was dead quiet. I really like the new whale tail design. First I thought it was too sharp, but after some use I found that it is very helpful. You can ease your way around a tree by moving that tail to a new position and letting it grab, then just slowly pivot to your new position. It does do a little damage to the tree, but I was also hunting out of a very soft birch tree (first time hunting one of those with the Wild Edge Stepps as well, and boy those suckers dig right in!) The damage will really just be to the spots that you like the tail to position to, I found that I would used the same marks each time I moved around the tree. If that is of concern to you, you could easily file the points to be more dull, but you would lose some of its “grabbing” power.

It was easy to find a comfortable setting for the backrest angle and is super easy to adjust, I would vary the angle now and then to sit in slightly different positions. I have a crap back and being able to do this made longer sits much more enjoyable. I am more of a sitter than leaner even in my minimalist Mantis saddle, their is no comparison with sitting comfort between the Hybrid and any other saddle I have used, this is definitely an all day worthy stand. You can still lean and stretch your legs out, as I would do on occasion.

Packing everything in on the walk is very comfortable, handling weight is not a problem. I just need to find a way to attach my backpack to the Hybrid so I can keep that on me as I climb, my backpack usually is around 20 lbs with all my hunting gear for the day and my camera setup. I don’t care for hauling that up via a rope and would prefer to keep it on my back while I ascend and descend the tree.

Unfortunately, I did not get any shots at deer the past 3 days, but did take several practice shots when getting up to height or before getting down (I always carry a judo tipped arrow or two for this) and the shots from the stand were comfortable and easily managed from a 62” longbow. Sitting and leaning shots were just as good as the shots from a minimalist saddle in my opinion.

I have a week off for hunting again beginning November 10th and plan on getting some serious hours in with this bad boy... and hopefully some videos this time as well!

Great review, your findings are exactly as mine. The HYBRID is definitely a hard one to beat.

Oh, thanks.....the slide down the tree was not to bad......not to say, I DON'T WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN!

I had same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago. I've debated about starting a thread to ask for tips/advise, this was my first hunt with spikes and I've only practiced with them about a dozen times before my hunt with them. I don't have experience using spikes so I'm not quite sure what I did wrong or combination of things that contributed to my incident. Luckily I had some limbs to go around and I felt unsure of the spikes and myself, so I had my tether hooked up and it did exactly what it is meant to do. In actuality I did not fall because of the tether, I swung into the tree as my feet kicked out from under me, it scared me more than anything! Glad you're ok, how long have you been using spikes? Are kickouts common with spikes or is this a rookie mistake?

Glad you was ok.
I used spikes maybe a half dozen times last season and I did not practice with them this off season. This time was the 3rd time this year but I'm not stopping. Kickouts are mainly on operator mistake I think. I believe that the reason mine kick was I think the spurs had bark stacked on the spike and I did not get the spur in the tree meat as needed.

Thanks, you confirmed what I was thinking. I'm going to stay with it.
