What should I use for a Lone Wolf Seat/Platform post?

Hey hunters, I'm putting together a Lone Wolf Seat Platform and don't have a post for it. I've tried to find the 1-1/4" square tube aluminum locally but I'm going to have to buy a 24' piece and spend over $120 for it!
You guys are some of the most inventive hunters out there so if you can give me some suggestions I would appreciate it.
I'm thinking I could get by with a piece that's only about a foot long what do you think?
Also I can find 1" but I'm not sure about the stability or if I shim it with some washers if it would be too noisy?
