Clearly that rope was partially cut. Good reason to be 100% mobile.

Pretty scary there are turds out there that would put someones life at risk over stupid flipping deer. Probably wannabe famous mentality some subhuman sack of crap thinks he kills a big buck he'll have fame, endorsements, and an entourage of big ole take-fittied blondes.

That absolutely stinks! I’m glad your ok, but I agree it looks cut. Doesn’t look like tree rat teeth. Don’t know how anyone could stoop so low, but they are out there for sure. About ten years ago had someone hacksaw 3/4 way thru several steps of a double ladder stand. On MY land! I caught the glitter of the cut in my headlamp fortunately. People Suck

No doubt in my mind that it was cut. If you decide to keep your stepps out I would take the bottom ones off atleast. I would also get a trail cam on your setup and maybe catch the culprits.

Another reason to never leave anything in the woods. My life is way more important than the convenience of leaving stuff in a tree just to save time.

I hear ya. I’m changing my ways. Thought private property would be fine.

Here’s the break
Contact me personally at andrew@wildedgeinc.com and I will be sure to send you new rope. That to me looks like someone cut the rope. I have hung a 3k tractor, 400lb 4 wheeler and picked up the front of my 8k excavator with one Stepp. The excavator broke the Stepp when the front was 3ft off the ground. When a SteppLadder rope breaks on tension it looks like a squirell nest. The braid all breaks at different lengths and looks like a nest. Your picture looks like a clean cut. I have had my stepps stolen and many people I know and when someone tries to steal them and is not intelligent enough to figure out how to un cam the Stepp they cut the ropes. I can promise you that rope was cut with a knife.
Please contact me and I will take care of you!
All my best,
Andrew Walter

Also I leave my stepps in trees for years and never ever had anything damage them. I’ve left them in trees for 6 years to the point that I had to cut the rope to get the Stepp off. The rope is the backbone of the Stepp.

Yes it is. I've had a treestand with ladder and accessories stolen a couple years ago as well as a trail camera stolen last year. I hesitate to leave anything in the woods, even overnight. I'm glad you're ok.

Glad you didn't get hurt.
It looks to me like it was cut, not chewed.
Many years ago, I mostly hunted from "jammer stands". We wedged platforms, made from various materials, into a "Y" of a tree and lashed them in.
One day I climbed my tree, stepped onto the platform, then attached my safety strap (yeah, I know...not the safe way...times and practices have changed since those days). I stood there for a few minutes and then looked down to one of my lash ropes...it was completely frayed and in two.
My 1st reaction was "f-ing squirrels!". I bent down to fix the rope (I had enough slack to re-tie it) and I noticed the tips of all the rope strands seemed to be almost melted. A chew job would have left the ends of that type of rope fibers "soft". Then I noticed the bark of the tree was kinda tore up. On closer inspection, I could see that the rope (and tree where the rope was tied) WAS SHOT with a shotgun. The melted feel of the ropes was from the BBs. There were 2 side-by-side patterns in the tree from a close range shot.
I looked down at the ground, and there they were...two empty 12 ga shells.
I don't know what exceeded the other...how pissed I was or how lucky I was...It was a lot of each!
I was also lucky I never caught the maggot who shot it...I would still be in jail.
Yeah, people suck. (Except for the good folks on this site, of course).

I have some original stepps in trees for 6 years now - in fact you cant remove them as they are now part of the tree. I have never had a squirrel chew on them. I believe you have someone jacking with you or the rope had a cut you didn't notice. Man if this is someone cutting someone's rope we have reached a new low. Like stated above I do not leave any part of my hunting gear in the woods anymore, mainly so I don't tip off my stand locations but this gives me a third reason (theft is my 2nd)

I wouldn’t discount the possibility of you accidentally partially cutting it prior to putting it up. A nick from a broad head or knife may not cause an immediate break but that one time you forget to check your equipment might be the moment it breaks. While I am confident there are members of the hunting community that are that POS, it’s rare for one member to try and kill another. Freak accidents are why I will have a second rope girth hitched to the tree and attached to my saddle. A nick from a broad head or knife may not cause an immediate break but that one time you forget to check your equipment might be the moment it breaks. Glad you’re ok dude.

Did you raise or lower a saw while you were up in the tree?
