Would you take this shot

I would like to think I would have waited him out. I probably would have thrown my release at him to get him to stand up and not been able to make the shot as he stood there broadside trying to figure out what happened.

I wouldn't have taken the shot either. Not only is is laying down but it looks like a bad angle to boot. I think you did good. I don't think you would be wanting to post," I took a shot at a bedded buck I may have hit it low, I followed it for hours, I shouln't have taken the shot, I feel like crap".

I would have waited for him to make the first move. He may have given you a shoot . I think if he didn't blow out of their he probably will be back.

Well he is not on camera and I just dropped my release. Cant wait until they finally log this area within 2 years. Its cursed I tell ya. Im gonna go wander another 500 yards or so find a first time spot. God Bless the Bush family for this day off.

He wasn’t gonna stay laying down long, wait him out.

In the heat of the moment I probably would've done exactly what you did thinking about it now if you grunt or bleat and there is no extremely thick cover very close by to you that he can't see through then he's got to think something is fishy especially being that close also he would be able to smell another buck or a doe and if none of those scenarios are happening you better believe he's going to get a little nervous.

If that deer was on his feet at that angle I’d have cleaned him out but being bedded you take the pass through out of the equation. Ya it might have lodged in the ground and been pulled out but I think you did right. That is a very deadly shot at close range when they’re on their feet. High on the point of the shoulder out through the pocket on other side.

Edit. At close range. Less than 20

The armpit exit is dynamite!

Got me pondering

Wondering if sacrificing an arrow by shooting a tree behind him would have made him jump up and move in your direction? He is facing your position. May have worked out perfectly due to them normally running 40-50yds then turning to see what made the noise. Of course he may see you drawing, hear the arrow zipping overhead or bow firing which would throw that theory out the window.

Hind sight is always 20/20.

Just wait him out. Unless night time is coming. Then I might have risked trying to get him to stand.

i definitely would pass!! I prefer to always take the cleanest shot possible. It ensures a clean kill without having to worry about losing the deer etc. i would have waited for him to stand up!

Good decision to pass on that shot. I would have just sat quietly until he got up. I've tried grunting at bedded bucks before and it usually spooks them when they are close.

You sir, are a better man than I. I killed my biggest bow buck at that exact angle at 10 yards......but it wasn't pretty. Good blood trail but I had to put him down with another arrow. Not a proud moment but it happened. That being said....he hangs on the wall above my recliner at this moment wearing a santa hat. I would like to think that in the heat of the moment I wouldn't repeat that shot with a bow. I killed two nice bucks like that with a gun and neither made it out of sight.
