I would just get out there and try it, let us know what you find out. Not a lot of climbing systems that are also your platform.

So I tried it and learned that it is super easy to adjust. Descend under the stand, hug tree with thighs. Lay platform on thigh and adjust the cable.

I did have a mishap, but it wasn’t while adjusting the platform, though it could have happened then too.

I was trying to attach the strap around the tree to lock the platform in place. While letting slack out of the Kong I somehow fell off the platform and dropped to the end of my tether, where I had a stopper knot. The Kong didn’t automatically grab. Lesson learned: I must back up the Kong with a prusik!

The platform got loose but it seems fine. The parachord tether broke so that seems to have taken the shock.

On the bright side, climbing back up from the end of my tether was so fast it convinced me thatthis is also a viable SRT technique for preset trees!

How are you guys handling going around limbs?

My thought is that I would need to stop with the limb at waist level so I could reach below and remove the platform, raise the platform above the limb and incorporate a 2 step aider for getting back onto the platform.

Have not been able to get on saddlehunter due to internet bandwidth on boat and still can’t watch the video. I so wanted to see the Purple Ford that @ImThere was talking about but will have to wait till we get some dock time.
Thanks @redsquirrel for posting can’t wait to see it.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro@huck72412 Please elaborate more on such Purple truck as I also seem to remember feet sticking out from underneath said truck.

I still use it a lot, even just after back surgery (probably not the smartest), there is a video of @bongo last year at Saddlepalooza but he wasn't wearing winter clothes, I'll see if I can get a video.

@Big Country bud it’s harder with heavy clothes on. Some bark on oak rough seem impossible sometimes. The belt I think is the problem.
The stand has to be almost level it can’t tilt up hardly at all or it will stick.
You can’t get frustrated you have to go slow in small increments till the tree lets you climb it.
Every tree is different none climb the same.
Start on 6” to 8” trees till you get used to it they are much easier.
I put a 1” aider on the front of mine this year so I could hang it chest high to start worked well.
I took all the climbing methods with me to Va this year except spurs and only used climber seat.
I had 75 bolts with me just in case. Didn’t drill 1 tree.
Used it in 20 degree weather.
My old hunting buddy came up and hunted with me and brought an open shot. The second day I showed him how to climb with it and he used it the rest of the time we were there.
It cost him a huge buck because he couldn’t sit still just starting out with saddle but he killed one a couple days later.

It was 24 degrees the morning I took this picture. The boots he’s wearing are insulated 1600.

Dude you got this. But if I could find time and make a top with a cable like Summit Climber’s have I’m pretty sure it would be a lot easier.

Yeah I like the idea of the summit cable mod like a member here has done. Gonna try the tubing over the belt next.

I tried black heater hose looked good but didn’t work. If you try it don’t go over about 14”.

If the hose works for you don’t keep it to yourself.
But anything round round to keep the belt teeth from grabbing the bark should help.

They have black hard plastic hose for palm tree and orange tree groves down here for watering system that if you could get right diameter should work good. Might be able to google it.

@Big Country just for the hell of it try wrapping it with black tape and see what it does.

Maybe you can unbolt the little arms on the climber and flip them over and rebolt them so the smooth part of the belt is on the tree instead of teeth.
Now I want to go home and try it myself.
