Youtube is dead

I for one find peace with the fact that the algorithms are infantile and hope they continue to be. I also grew up on “standard TV” so commercials are always annoying but somebody has to make money somehow. But there’s just something supremely Orwellian about AI that scares me. What scares me even more is reading that we all want more sophisticated AI for whatever reason. I’m certainly ok with forms of AI that help you learn or build on your learning to some extent but keep it content centric not individual centric if that makes any sense. In other words, I don’t want a “brain” created by man to try and compete with our God given brains. I think that’s worldly thinking and thus a very slippery slope.

Absolutely. It ranges from very weird to oddly wholesome. Weird end involves onlyfans type shenanigans or eating contest weirdness. Wholesome end is just some dude/dudette eating noodles and talking about their day.
Oh my. Ok. Boom... second income idea. If watching a couple eat dinner is good then watching a 9-person family try not to kill each other at the dinner table is better. Am I right?

It annoys me when a hunting related Youtube video presenter has a rocks glass of whiskey, a can of cream ale, a cigar, whatever.

No problem with such enjoyments, but if a drink is necessary to get through video production, I'll probably need more than one to get through the content. I'd rather drink with friends, or alone, lol. I don't smoke.

However, there was one that made me laugh. Guy had an absolutely filthy glass of whiskey on the counter, which he never touched, and a baby rocker behind him. I thought, ok, he's just making a video in a normal setting, lol.

I can't put my finger on the when or why but thp isn't what it used to be. I used to look forward to their deer tours but not so much last season or 2

I watch hunt stuff from other parts of the country just to see what I get to look forward to when I can start venturing out of my state.

I like swamp n stomp cause they "local" but even then the 6 hour drive south to where they stomp the terrain is much different so it's not totally relatable.

I think a large part of the THP thing is similar to a hipster dropping his favorite band once they become popular. When they were new they were considered as counter culture compared to main stream hunting shows. But they have been successful long enough they have become the new mainstream. Plus they’ve slowly become more commercialized. Watching their antics is not quite the same when your thinking about the amount of money they’re making hunting while you still have to show up for work on Monday. Though I do still watch from time to time.

to me they have been one of the best to keep it uncommercialized, down to earth, real life hunting.

I don't hold the commercialization against them or them being mainstream. Probably that's turned some off, and I understand it. But to me, it's just part and parcel to making a living in the hunting video industry and I'm not going to begrudge someone for being in an industry he/she is passionate about and enjoys. THP wasn't going to sustain what they were doing, even part time, by selling THP logo sweatshirts sourced from amazon. So, it is what it is.

What drew me to watch THP at all was they were doing some things differently than me. What ultimately turned me off was they were doing some things differently than I ever would. Similar to what @katiesmom said.

I haven't watched one of their videos in a long time, so maybe there are more sidebars to the actual hunting going on now than I'd tolerate, idk. That's what I assume most folks are hitting on. I get that too. When the Drury's started featuring bunches of pro athletes and what not celebrities, that was such a bore.

Out of curiosity what did they do that turned you away?

Agreed along with the beast and midwest and a few others. Its like i said earlier when you get enough money involved it turns mainstream.
youtube is just sbout like tv now. Most watch streaming stuff rather than regular tv.
its getting pretty simple to pick out the bs artists compared to people who really want to help others snd grow our great sport or hobby or passion. Lol

it may be simple For those of us already deeply engaged with hunting. But for those who are just Beginning it’s not so easy to separate sound tactics from click bait. And then there’s the matter of how all these productions are viewed by the non hunting public. Youlube is the epitome of a double edged sword: in one hand it’a a great gift that there’s so much information out there and available to anyone who wants to watch and on the other hand when all that info is taken out of context it can be quite misleading.
